Quick bit about me, im 18 nearly 19. Ive always been interested in the forces and have been on a few "week in army life" placements with college. I think i want to go in police, i have applied once and failed final interview, apply again on monday.
But i would also like to go into the TA.
The qusetions i have are the following
1) In my current job, and when i get in police, i may not be able to attend all of the meetings/weekends although i will try, will this be a problem? although most will be ok (also when i start police training)
2) How should i apply, ive been told by a few lads just to turn up at the centre. But i dont want to come across as rude, should i ring and arrange a meeting or something first?
3) Last, when i apply for the police, if i get the job, i will have to move quite far away, around 100 miles. So will it be ok to move ta centres?
Thanks in advance, sorry for the long post too
Craig

Welcome
To answer your questions
Joining. either go to your local TA centre on a drill night or go to your local ACIO/AFCO they normally have a TA guy there you can talk too.
Have you looked at what job you would like to do in the TA??
You have a basic commitment in the TA, am not sure what it is at the moment as its going through a change. That qualifies you for your yearly bounty, your Unit will do everthing to help you qualify. But if you cant, then you cant. TA is voluntary so whatever you can commit to then that should be ok, however it works both ways. If your only turning up twice a year then your unit might decide to get rid of you, but if you miss a couple of nights here and there then its no big deal
Moving TA centres again depends on your job choice. As your going in the police have you thought about Royal Military Police in the TA??
Try searching for National TA on the web to give you some idea!
Good luck in your search and any questions you have drop me a PM

If you get into the police I think you will find it is a full time job. As you you know they work shifts which means it is awkward for you to attend the TA on Regular basis. Also the Police would expect to call on you at any time they have a need to an extra body so this stops you making plans to far in advance. Why not wait on all this and see if you make it into the Police before yo start worrying about the TA. If you don't get into the the Police then you will have to look at others careers that might give you more time for the TA.

Just to echo Tab,being is Police Officer is more than a full time job.
It's a commitment and a life style.
With shift work, overtime(paid and unpaid)Plus cover duties and court appearances, many at a day's notice you could not possibly find time for non-job related activities.
If you don't mind me asking, what happened the first time around?
As an aside;your spelling and grammar will be extremely important when giving physical or verbal evidence in court as will a calm and confident demeanour.
