Want to join but need some help

Post by Yosh »

Hi all

I've wanted to join the army since I was a young boy. From school I was asked to go and talk to the careers advisor and I spoke to her saying I want to join the army. Back then I trained knowing what I wanted to do but and was it pretty good shape. However she said to me that you can't join with asthma which brought me down and had to find something else. I'm a college now doing somthing which is more of a hobbie not somthing I wan to turn into a profession. Anyway I'm no were near as fit as I was I'm over wieght but my friend how joined the paras has made me motivated to take up my dream. I want to know what's the best way to get fit I'm about 17 or 18 stone but I was about 16 back at school and when trained went down to 14 stone. I really wonna join up and would even think alot about joining even if I have asthma when I've trained.

What would you guys suggest? Thanks alot I appreciate it

If you have asthma you can't join. It doesn't matter how fit you may be.

If I recall correctly you need to have been free of any medication/symptoms for at least 4 years prior to applying.

Four years clear from Last Asthma attack or last time you were issued an inhaler.

What fitness are you doing at the moment??? You need to give us an indication of your fitness baseline, how tall are you too this matters when you talk about weight.

However before you even consider training I would suggest go to the Doctor for a full check up.
What Job/trade are you looking for in the Army?? This will also give us some idea of what training you need.
