Just wondering if the paras use Geographic Technicians and if they do, do they get to join the battalion or will they just be bought in when needed?
Looking at the arrse forums it seems "Geo boys" are seen as geeks but the job seems intresting to me but i wouldnt consider it if i couldnt join the paras with it.

Was i shafted?
I have been doing reasearch all day on the Geographical technicians and have found that although i will get my wings and do P-Coy i will not ever be part of the paras, i will just be part of the para trained engineers which is completely the opposite of what i was told at the recruitment officer.
I told them in my interview that in 4 years time of being in the paras i wanted to get a trade so i had some job prospects when i leave, they told me that the paras would not let you do this so it was best to join something like the engineers then i would be able to transfer into 1,2 or 3 para.

I think what they meant was that you go into RE for a bit and once you have aquirred the skills in the RE you could transfer into the Paras and do the Airbourne Infantry role there. There are other units attached to the Paras but they will not actually be part of the Regiment as the Paras are Infantry.
