Injury - Help

Post by calvin-fassam »

Sorry about this but i was going for a run last sunday and when i was running down a hill i got to the bottom and badly twisted my ancle. I went to the hospital and they said that i have sprained my ancle, pulled muscles and ripped tendons.

This was a week ago and it still hurts like a Peach! Im going in the army on the 21st july, so i rung up my careers advisor to inform them and they said, when i go for my oath of alleigence on the 10th and if it still not healed then they will see what will happen from there.

Well its been a week and im starting to worry about my fitness because i still cannot run or walk properly on my foot and the hospital said it will have healed in a week. Im still doing upper body exercises because that not effecting my ancle. Ive also got a lump of bone or something on my foot and when i walk my foot clicks everytime i bend the ancle. Should i be worrying because i have rested it and everything (R.I.C.E).

My ancle is better to what it was swelling and pain wise but its still in my eyes quite bad and im worrying about if im going to have it better by the 10th. What can the army do if im not fit by then because my friend said they can stick you on remedial fitness or something will this happen do you know? I really dont want to be defered for a year becuase i thought i was finally sorting my life out!

Sorry about the long post but i wanted you to know about my situation and just want you to know everything before you give some advice. Any help would be much appreiciated of how to help recover or anything.
Thank you

Also does anyone know of any exercises that can keep my fitness up because i used to run like 6 miles 3 times a week and also 8 miles once a week with my circuit training and boxing here and there. With my injury ive noticed (probably in my head) that im gettin unfit just wondered if there was anything i could do that wont effect my ancle too much, that will be the equivilent to 6 mile or 8 mile runs?

Any ideas? :) Cheers

Swimming if you feel up to it. I doubt you will be deferred for a year - if you did something similar on day two of training you may be medically discharged, which would bar you from service for two years (I think?). However, because you've not joined yet I would guess the AFCO will be able to sort something out, like pushing your joining date back until you've been healed.

If you have doubts about your ankle your best bet is to see a private physiotherapist. Though having said that, if the A&E you went to X-rayed your ankle they will probably have the best idea what you've done to it. Follow their advice and stay off it. Don't go back to three 6 milers a week too soon or all sorts of bother will find you out.

All the best with your recovery and future career int th'Army. :D
