Hmm good question. IBS can mean all matter of things from mild crohns to the squirts after too much milk.
Are you being treated for it, is it stress related, have you had a biopsy taken, had allergy test?
They will investigate via your GP, expect a long wait for a decision, and then it maybe negative.

Right... I can give you some pointers
1st thing do as the Doc says, get it checked out is it a medical issue?
Get an allergy test - a lot of people have probelms with lactose or wheat. They don't cost much to do.
You don't say what the problem is, constipation, runny tummy, pains due to acid etc. I had a lot of issues with food going through too fast, or pain after going so went to the dietician, had to change what i eat - a lot less fast food etc.
These people are really good;

Digestizme can help with food going in through too quick, a good product for tours etc
The pro-biotic is also vey good and will help maintain resisitance to bacteria, e.g. stopping stomach upsets.
------------------------------------------------
All this you need to bear in mind in relation to service, which may be a problem as squaddie food is not always the most varied or reliable.
If you have real lasting IBS problems like me, a colonic (water treatment inside your "insides" might help.
I had 2 and my guts have vastly improved.
Hope this helps

Listen up (2nd post on this)
If your problem is "stomach acid", or mild pain the guts (Not bought on by the RSM's inspections ha ha
). Rather than investing in the likes of Gaviscon etc try looking at your diet.

Look at the chart at the end of the link.... try having a bit more fruit and veg, reducing the meat and fast food it might help. Most modern (processed/fast) food is processed and has lots of sugar/fat
