New Lad Please Help!

Post by parajosh »

Hello everybody I am new to this website. I thinks it's great and there is lots of useful information. I am 3 weeks away from leaving school and I have been considering my options and i really would like to join the Army. Not only would I like to join the Army but I'd like to join the best which I found out when I went into my army careers office is the Parachute Regiment. I sat and talked to the Para and he gave me a few booklets and told me to think about it. I told him I would probably shit myself when it came to the Trainasium (because I'm afraid of heights) and he told me not to let it stand in my way and there are lots of lads who are afraid of heights that do join up. I just want to ask if there is any paras on this website who please give me some info via pm or this thread as I really really really would love to join the paras but i am bricking it :( and were you scared on the Trainasium??

Also Ive been looking on bebo at some paras in training and they were with different berets could anyone tell me why please? Also When do you first have to do the Trainasium? And is phase one as same as what everyone else joining the army would do like it says in the booklet? or has it changed now? And do you get moved in with th rest of para recruits on phase two?

Sorry for all the questions but thanks for reading much appreciated :D

I wouldn't let it stand in your way mate I think you get to go on the Trainasium a few times before you actually do it in P-coy anyway.

Welcome to the site anyway mate and all the best!! :D

Plus if you wont settle for anything less than elite and you don't want para there's always the marines.

Welcome to the forums and good luck mate!! 8)

Not trying to put you off the Paras or anything but generally most AFCO Officers will persuade you to join their regiment in particlar. Don't just go by what he/she says, look at the Paras carefully and wait a while before jumping in. This could just be an impulse decision, don't let it be as joining the Army/Navy/RAF is not a decision to be taken lightly. I'm sure there are many people in selection who decided Paras are best on impulse and then later on decided it wasn't for them and have then wasted their own and everyonem elses time. True, they are highly regarded but look into them and alternatives!

I'm not that good in the water mate and I assumed Marines do alot in water with them being part of the Royal Navy. It's not because I don't like the Navy. Saying that though Ive seen marines on the news etcetera and they are on dry land so do they do dry land more than amphibious these days? If so I may take the Marines well into account.

Marines primarily do Amphibious Assault whilst the Paras are Airbourne Assault. You said you don't like heights so you'll have to pick the lesser of two evils really! 8)

Well obviously there has to be some sort of training with heights in any part of the army. Not trying to be rude or anything.

And to be honest. Marines is just a name nowadays. I rarely hear of any amphibious operations happen in Iraq. And I doubt the Marines come to Iraq via boat.

Fact of the matter is. Both are great. And you're lucky you don't have my friends. Even though I show no interest in the Marines they won't stop making seamen jokes. Bastards. :x

When was the Parachute Regiments last combat drop? And I think you'll find in 2003 (the invasion) the Royal Marines did go to Iraq ''in boats''.

Not what I asked, I didn't state that 16th Air Assault had a dated name. My point was more that you can hardly criticise the Royal Marines for being badly and datedly named, they do still retain and continue to use amphibious capabilities and to guard the fleet with detachments on ships.

I'm trying to word it in a way, but don't know if I have managed so will state here, that I'm not trying to call into question the paras ability, or the fact that we should retain troops with their capabilities..

Hi guys thanks for all the replys and the video link. I was just wondering could anyone tell me what the process is for getting into the parachute regiment? Also If successful what are the first few weeks of depot like?

And In the booklet I got it says the first 12 week is deemed to be basic training is this what everyone does when they first join up to the army and then after those 12 week would I be going onto more parachute regiment training?
Thanks guys :D :D
