Hello everyone out there,

I'm new to this forum.
Basically my situation is the following: I have passed recruit selection at ADSC Pirbright back in October and got my first choice which was Parachute Regiment. A few days after ADSC I was contacted by my Army Careers Advisor and was given 6 Jan 2008 as my intake date, then just today I received a phone call from the ACIO stating that there had been problems with that intake and that it had to be cancelled. My new intake date is 27 Jan, which all in all is not too bad as it's only a 21 days delay. It got me wondering though, what sort of problems could there have been with the first intake? Not enough recruits perhaps? Anyone's got a clue? Plus, is there anyone else out there in my same situation (anyone starting CIC PARA on 27 Jan)?

Any reply would be mostly appreciated,

There's all sorts of reasons for this mate, admin problems, staff problems, or maybe too many recruits on that intake. I wouldn't worry about it.

I too passed ADSC Lichfield in October and also got allocated Jan 6th para intake..only to be moved to 27th.. My AFCO said it was something like not being able to fill the course :-?

I rang the Para hotline for another reason a few days later, and they said as both 2+3 para were heading out next year, providing I pass the CIC I should be straight out as well! That cheered me up a bit :wink:

Thats great news udonthave2call! I was aware that the Paras would obviously be in the thick of the action (thats the reason why I wanted the Paras in the first place), but going out straight after CIC -provided I pass it, as you put it makes it even more exciting.
Ill see u in Catterick mate :wink:

I'm on 27th too, shame about the 6th being cancelled. How much running etc are you guys doing?

To be honest I'v been in recruiting since February so another three weeks wont hurt! One thing he did say was that because they want to get the battalions up to strength, there's a good chance that recruits fresh out of Catterick wont do their wings course at Brize until after they return from Afghan.

I'd probably guess its a good idea to continue with the training you did to get fit enough for adsc, just make sure you continue to push yourself hard. Keep leg strength up and cardio on top form, then its up to you to never give up when you get there no matter how hard it is.

Hopefully I will be going ADSC Lichfield soon, hoping to join the Paras have you got any tips? :D And what were your run times like?

Hey mm1306. I'm stickin to 5 training sessions a week. I run for 1 hour or so at a steady pace plus circuit training 4 times whilst I dedicate the fifth session to the 1.5 miles run where I can keep to 8.20/8.30 min without pushin it to the limit ( I remember doing 7.58 as my personal best once before ADSC but I almost had to crawl back home once I stopped!) As for circuit training I stick mostly to what the brochure they gave as at ADSC said - tricep dips, pushups, lower and upper abs, squats, arm curls etc alternating 20 sec exercise to 10 sec rest. I hope this will keep me fit enough for the course. I'm also planning to cut down a bit on the training 1 week or so before the 27 as I don't want to reach Catterick gassed out. How about u guys?

7:58 is bloody amazing. I can do just over 9 minutes. The main thing is to have your lower legs in good shape I reckon to prevent injury through shin splits etc , because usually I would do a decent amount of running and for the first week or so my lower legs would be aching but then that would gradually stop but then after a few weeks I wouldn't run for two weeks or so(for various reasons) and then would start again and would get that ache. So the lesson is consistency. I do pushups and situps but I get the impression that they are more interested in running ability and later tabbing but that we shouldn't tab before depot.

Yeah I think you might be right about the Paras stressing the importance of running, as it seems that they are more interested in having blokes that can keep going for long distances rather than pumped-up muscle men. Such standards suit me fairly well since I'm 5'7'' and 152 lbs..not the biggest of the guys but I've always had endurance as my main strenght and lately worked hard to improve it. Having said this I firmly believe that they will fcuk us up regardless once we start training at depot :-?

I did 8.36 at ADSC, currently hovering around that!

They want pumped up musclemen who can run the distance :wink:

Size or weight is not an issue when you start depot all the biggest blokes seem to drop out or lose 5 stone so that they can keep up with the smaller guys.
