E Coy - 3rd Royal Anglian

Hey people.

Just to introduce myself, I live in the south-east of England and am in my second year of a-levels.

Last week, I passed my medical and interview for E Coy, 3rd Royal Anglian. I have my recruit selection weekend in Janurary.

It is my goal to become a troop commander in an infantry unit. I am still undecided on 1st Royal Anglians, Para's or Marines.

I am unsure on Uni. I just can't seem to find a course that interests me to be honest.

The reason why I am posting is to ask if anyone has any help on how to progress my career using the TA as a stepping stone.

This sounds slightly familiar but I could be wrong.....

If you have applied to join the TA then there is no point thinking about the Marines. If you are in the TA Anglians then is there a way of progessing into the 1st Anglians or are they both TA?

If you are thinking of the Paras, why not join 4 Para instead? I know you might want to experience two different units but it might be something you want to consider before you commit to the Anglians. If you DO go to University then it might be easier to commit to 4 Para (not in full time education, money prehaps, nearer the location?).

I haven't applied to Uni, but I still want a Commison, it's not impossible but it's going to be very hard. The TA will provide you with good oppourtunites so might make your application for regular Officer seem more attractive.

In five years time you could be having a great time in the TA, have a good job, nice car, maybe a girlfriend? You might then not want to transfer into the regular Army. So make your choice wisely. But if you are thinking of going into the Army, then I wouldn't think about regular RM (although it has probably been done).

Hopefully there will be a good converstaion this time.....

My reason for joining the Royal Anglian is because they are local to me.

Otherwise I would have deffinatly joined 4 Para or RMR, but I have not totally discounted regular Royal Anglian.

I have spoken to my Captain at the TA centre and he said that people from the TA often transfer to regular RM or Paras. He said its the experience and skills you gain that are attractive to people, not through which organisation you have gained them from.

I am not sure where I would like to go yet.

I went to look at Southampton Solent and Brighton and they both look cool.

I just am without a clue as to which course I would study.

I'm not sure how long it will be, it is a certain amount of weekend courses and I think a couple of weeks away.

I do have the literature around here somewhere lol. But I will fish it out and confirm tomorrow
