Just started my application for the RAF Regt and have my interview and medical coming up next week. The AFCO say that if all goes well PGAC could be as early as mid-december and if successful there could be starting TG course early new year Golly!
Just wondered if there's any more guys on here going for the Regt aswell.
Hiya, i've just finsihed the application process had my medical and aptitude test last week and my interview on the tuesday just gone, all gone well! just waiting for a PGAC date! wherebouts are you in country? u started traing yet? if not u want to! u know much bout the PGAC? Advice for interview: swot up on RAF Regt Knowledge cos they asked me things like: "where are regt based" where are they operating at the moment" and things like that, they'll also ask your views on things like drugs and the civvy police. hope that helps!
Im from the west riding of Yorkshire (Bradford, Leeds area) and been training for about six months. I was going to join up back in May but my parents weren't too happy about it . They said that if i still wanted to do it six months later then it showed i was serious. Anyhow fitness is good but really need to work on my swimming as i haven't done any for about 4 years!
Anyone know the Regt current deployments? The RAF and Regt site are a waste of time.
Yeah they are! havnt been updated since '02 i think! as far as i know the rapier squadrons are deployed all over the UK and in the Falkland Islands. there is also a force in iraq of field and rapier. and there is one squadron in NI. guy at the AFCO said is was likely i could be in iraq in a years time! hows that for a recruitment statement! not done much swimming myself either, as far as i know you have to swim 50m at the PGAC, not sure bout time limit. Been training for ages, still havn't managed to give up smoking yet...but i'm getting there ( i reckon no the reg won't want a quitter of any kind :p )
Gunner22, some lads that passed out of the last course (last week i think it was) and went to a sqn who are heading to the iraq after christmas, not long really is it! I'm a crap swimmer and really struggled when it came to swim phys but found the combat swim test ok- as long as you dont drown then you'll be alright just get down your pool and practice front crawl because no other swim is allowed, which was a nightmare.

i got my PGAC but dont know when it is i have to wait till they get back to me but i have just done my medical.
one question though dose every regiment gunner do the artic training in canada and jungle in belize? or do you have to specilise in something?
No, it it the unit that gets trained. If you are on the unit at the time you get trained.
Arctic Warfare = Norway, usually.
ow okay then well i like to be on the paratrooper on 2 Squadron or Working in support of Special Forces operations but i guess that they would put me where they want me right?

Intitially, that is a possibility. But your volunteer application would still be in, plus those units are always looking for switched on blokes. It could be that you find yourself on Pre Para after any potential post TG detachment. For SFSG you would need to gain more experience first. Probably at least one full Sqn tour.
This is all Hypothetical of course. Best do your PGAC and see if you like us first

thanks i am sure i can pass the minimum fitness and if i dont i will do all the re-appling and if i still dont get in i will join the infantry or if i can the marines but i dont see why i wouldnt be able to pass it i run everyday and do push ups ect one thing i am worried about though would be my age (16) i just think that the raf would prefer older men than younger ones
