Strange letter about eyesight...

Post by fogarty »

Okay, I did a search about the CAAMB and haven't quite found what I'm looking for.

I recently got a letter that goes like this, it asked that I needed to include my visual acuity but also:

"Please take the enclosed form to your opticians for completion and return all paperwork back to myself at CAAMB for assessment of your fitness for entry into the Royal Navy."

I haven't seen the actual letter as I'm not at home, but was just wondering if anyone else has received something like this?

You book an eye exam at your nearest "D and A" opticians.
Take the sheet in, they fill it in with your results, then you take it to your afco.

Watch the opticains dont try to sell you glasses when you dont need them like they did with me when i was va1 !

Yeah I got one of them, take it down your opticions and hand it to them when you have your eye test. It tells them exactly what you needed tested and although slightly confusing they seem to get it straight away. Mine didn't charge anything to fill the form in on top of normal eye sight test, some might I guess though.

is this part of the eye exam you have with your medical or is this an extra in exceptional circumstances?

As said it's normally at Dolland And Aitchison. It's also free of charge, any cost gets billed to the navy I think - whoever, it's free.

you need to book a eye test at local eye shop, you do not have to pay for it though sinse theres a letter you give the store which they can send off to MOD which they will in turn pay for.

though when i did this and went to medical he said all this totaly unnesasary, and said he can do same thing.

still may as well double check with your recruit office i guess if you not clear.
