Take a look here: http://www.royal-navy.mod.uk/server/show/nav.2974M3LIX wrote:Hi, i'm in school at the moment, but need to decide what im gonna do quite soon. I wanted to join the marines, but i didnt want to do that for the whole of my carer.

How long were you thinking about serving? It'll take you at least a year after joining before you have your green beret.
You may enlist for a period of four years. Your initial engagement will not commence before the age of 17½. Any service prior to this age will be additional to the first four-year period. During the last year of service you may apply to re-engage for a further period of two, three or four years.
Premature Termination of RMR Service
Unless you are in permanent service or Full Time Reserve Service under Section 24 of the Reserve Forces Act 1996, or an order is in force authorising the call out of the reserves in the circumstances described above, you are entitled to ask to be discharged before the end of the period for which you enlisted or re-engaged. You will also be required to give one month's notice in writing and return clothing and other public property issued to you in good order or pay for the deficiencies.
You may be discharged by the RMR:
If your services are no longer required.
For unfitness on medical grounds
For failure to fulfil the training obligation
By your Commanding Officer for disobedience, neglect of duty or misconduct
Second question is that its just a part time thing right? Yes, but...
Your service will be part-time only unless you are called out for permanent service (see below), or you volunteer and are accepted for full-time service either as a member of the permanent staff or for Full Time Reserve Service under (Section 24 of the Reserve Forces Act 1996.)
Part-time service consists of mandatory periods of Continuous and Non-continuous training. In addition you may voluntarily attend further periods of training
probalby sounds bit stupid but im just checking. cheers guys
Hope this helps
