3 miler times in signatures

Just wondering, to those of you who have a time quoted for a 3 mile run in your signature, is this your time for a steady pace run or is it in the PRMC style of 11.5mins for 1.5 miles then best effort on the way back?

It's still a bunch of numbers at the end of the day, as your signature quite rightly says, or is that letters?Sarastro wrote:So actually, the 3 miler is essentially just the Army PFT: slow pace warmup, then 1.5 mile best effort sprint.

Guys, if you're gonna do a PRMC, dont worry about what other lads are doing, worry about your own times. It's not designed to be impossible. It's designed to be passed by your average bloke with a good fitness level. The PTI's will take care of the rest in training.
Edit: Sarasto's signature is no longer the barage of sarcasm that it was. Despite it prooving a good point, in that numbers are just that, numbers. Crack on and you'll get there.
I find this 2 * 1.5 mile style dissapointing. Running 5k at my own tempo I can do it in 19:56.
With this format I'd have to run 1.5 miles in 7:26 to equal my time
I'd rather they gave us a 'warm up first' and then let us loose to do the 5k in our own way.
I'm happy to be running 1.5 miles in 9:40 but in this instance it means I'm coming in at 20s below the cut-off, which is too close for my liking.
In a 1.5mile best effort 20s off the limit is ok, but when they view your time as an overall for the 5k, it looks less than satisfactory in my eyes.
Having had a winge about it though, i'm using it as extra incentive to get out and do some interval training for 6min miles.
Thinking about it, it's unusual that there are no timed runs on POC, as they constantly drill into you that as a YO you're expected to physically excel (ie shortened times for Cdo tests etc..) even more than you do as a nod.

Yeah but ive got my PRMC in 9 days and I did that 9mins 50 on perfectly flat ground and it was an absolute balls out effort. I understood that they had change the 3miler format because too many were failing on it, rather than showing what determination they have on bottom field and gym test 2. I may have heard wrong I don't know.chris5818 wrote:Well thats a pass isn't it, you can only get better matelodgi wrote:I only got 9mins 50 after a 12min 1.5m to warm up.
Can anyone that has recently been down verify how long you have for the 1.5m best effort?
I'm pretty sure it's 10 minutes. The squad 1.5 mile is 12.5 mins, and the total time allowed for the old 3 miler was 22.5 mins. Couple this with the fact that your PJFT cut-off is 10 mins and it's definately not going to be longer than that.

Yes Fubar, that does seem to make sense.
I have started doing a 1.5 mile route twice instead of a complete 3 mile circuit.
I have found this helps me as it gives me two times to work at instead of just the one. I either try and knock off a good amount of time from one of the laps and keep the other lap roughly the same as the previous session. After doing this for a number of weeks my 3 mile time is coming along very well indeed!
I am now down to 10.33 and 9.46.
Anyone struggling with the 3 miler or just to make a change give this a shot. This along with circuit training ("The Beast") a few times a week as well as the odd longer run should stand me in good stead for PRMC round 2 around September.
Cheers
James
