Jump Freak I know you haven't got long until your off but may i advise a half decent watch aswell! Its definatly useful in the field when on stag etc, you'll have to take it off during PT but lateness is a big NO NO, no matter what part of the army you're serving in!!

Good Luck and all the best fella, if you keep your head down and don't get noticed too much you'll be fine!

Cheers Billy

Ive got a timex ironman that i use for training. I was going to take that. It's got most things that i could need i.e. it tells the time, has an alarm and even a stop watch!! lol

I've heard that strong plastic bags can be useful too for storing stuff in your bergan, but im not sure if this is just for once you get to battalion??

Quoted for truth.

Even better is a watch with one of those silent alarms (vibrates on your wrist), since noisy alarms are a Bad Thing, as they wake your muckers up in barracks, will majorly piss off whoever you are sharing a basha with when you get up for stag in the field, and are generally a sure route to getting yourself filled in.

Oh, and nobody ever says this in kit lists, but decent foam earplugs are a must if you ever want to sleep while in barracks.

...and though also not kit-list stuff, having one of these containing a waterproof waxed-paper notepad (webtex also sell one, or surplus stores will) and several biros (I have a waterproof map jacket stuck in there too) in it will make your life a hell of a lot easier.

...christ, things keep coming to me: if anyone you know is going on a long plane journey soon, ask them to get 3-4 of the free washbag things that airlines hand out for you, they're perfect to use as medkit, washkit, sewing/boot kit bags when you're out in the field.

Broken. Accidentally though, just lending it to my mates. Irons always have a tendancy to jump off the ironing board.
A good tip coming from someone who's just come out of depot ;)
When you go on exercise always take a moral bag with you, Eg: 2-3 bags of haribo in one big resealable bag, goes down a treat after a few days of rat packs.

One last thing jumpy buy a sylvet (pronounced silvette) from your nearest jewelrers (how ever thats spelt) for bulling boots with, much better than them yeloow issue dusters that do more harm then good to your boots. You might be able to get them from the NAFFI but will cost you an arm and a leg! I bet you've started packing for the big day already :D

Haribo always sounds like a good idea to me!! haha

I'll head up to the jewellers today to get some of those silvette things. On the topic of bulling, i bought normal shoe polish but then realised that you can get parade gloss too. Will i need parade gloss or will the normal stuff be ok? I know these are only minor things but i want to make sure everything is sorted for when i go in.

I'm starting to pack today, now i've got pretty much most of my stuff sorted. Just one other quick question; what do i take it all in? Suitcase? Big sports bags? Bin Bags? Or does it not really matter as long as it gets there?

Only buy Kiwi black boot polish and take one tin of parade gloss as its good as a finishing touch for your boots. I don't think they issue ammo boots to any other regiments these days apart from the guards but if you do get issued a pair PM me and i'll tell you the tricks of the trade of beeswaxing and bulling them. On that note, if you need any tips on bulling just PM me.

Id just take all your gear in a big sports bag or suitcase.

Hope all goes well, it should do if your prepared

Cheers for that Billy. Only 4 days to go now so if i'm not prepared now, i never will be!! :o

I found out last week that the CIC (PARA) course is now 28 weeks and not 26. Anyone know what the difference is?

P-Company looks the same as expected, although it's in week 21-22 now. I remember Sandy saying that they were adjusting the fitness program to cut down on injury, so maybe the extra 2 weeks is something to do with that? Just speculation though and i'm sure ill be finding out in due course. After all, 'Utrinque Paratus'!! :D

I gather your pretty fit anyway so you should have no problems, building up is very important to preventing injury so maybe P-company have taken a wise descision but then again its all mind over matter don't let them brake you mentally. If you keep your head down, focus and don't lose your marbles you'll pass, no question! :D

yeah, my fitness is good (i hope). I'm hoping that being 26 will help with the mental punishment, but i suppose it's not something i'll know until i get there.

Age and hopefully maturity will definatly help you, the instructors will probably have higher expectations of you, as age sometimes (not always) means responsibility!

Age means nothing when you turn upto depot. your all shitstains no matter who you are or where you've come from. I'm 17 and they didn't treat me any different to the older jo's.

By the way about the gucci polish and sylvette, you don't need them til the last week. I'd worry about surviving the build up to P-company :)
