New recruitment adverts.

Post by AJtothemax »

Alright to everyone reading this.

Got in from work at 17:30 today and sat down to watch some telly when a new Army Careers advert came up - it doesnt show it all and it asks you to go to the website to view the rest (that becomes apparent when you view them).

I just have to say that they're bang on lads. I think they quite rightly reflect what the british military is really about and they're definately worth watching. I thought i would post it here and not in 'Recommended Media' as i think more people will see it. Im going to stick on in the Army section as well. Mods if thats not ok then do as necessary please, move, sticky, delete or whatever.

All the best everyone. 8)

yer, heard one on the radio about a bridge crossing problem. a bit strange to be honest when one minute you're driving down a busy motorway with huge lorries either side of you, and then the next your'e deep in thought trying to figure out the answer.

They're certainly better than the old adverts which tried to hide the fact that if you joined up you'd actually be in the Army doing stuff in the field!! They were terrible those ones that showed you'd be fixing goal posts with bras and rebuilding cars in your mates front room for "laughs"

It's about time they showed realistic adverts, I think these will attract the right sort of people ie the kind who join up to go on operations and really get involved.

Yeah thats right. Actually the last set of Army adverts were based on that, but i think that failed to drive in more recruits, probably overshadowed as usual by bad reports from Iraq and especially Afghanistan where the Para's and Fusilliers were rucking it out with the Taliban on the ground (lack of equipment, reporters not being allowed in etc) - real shame that.

I remember the old ones from when i was a kid in the good old 90's .

I still think they're amoung the best that i have seen. If i remember correctly they were only about 20-30 seconds long, with a 'What would you do?' question at the end. The one thst sticks in my mind the most was one were the troops were in desert DPM's carrying a wounded comrade, they get to a bridge and its been destroyed, and it looks like the only way across. It was filmed as if it was being seen through the eyes of another soldier. Cracking advert.

Back on topic though, i still quite like these new ones.

I vaguely remember the ones you're talking about AJ.

What tops any recruitment adverts however, was the tv series Soldier Soldier! bring that back! loved it.

I'm not to fussed on these new ones. I think I recall the ones AJ is on about. One that sticks out in my mind is the one where they are driving, enemy position ahead is spotted. And they shut off the lights and turn off into the woods.
The most recent one with that female doctor, just comes across like she doesn't particularly give a flying f@#k. And is like SIGH, not another moronic set of parents who don't keep an eye on their children.

Yeah i kind of remember that one too, there was also another one where a land rover was caught in an intense blizzard, again asking the question of what to do. I think the answer was to put a blanket over the engine to stop it from freezing over so it could save everyones life, something like that?

I didn't think the one with the lady was to bad actually, nothing sexist but the other ones they have recently were far better.

Nothing will ever top the full length version of the 99.9% RM ad. As for the lastest army ad efforts....well, atleast they're making an effort.

XCJ - I'm not sure if I'm right here, but I'm sure I remember in Soldier Soldier they'd always have BFAs attached, even though supposedly on ops. Could be wrong, but quite sure I remember that. Still, was good.

Saw these, quite good.

I haven't seen any other ads apart from the 99.9% one.

In fact, are there any others?

I agree they are rather good, at least they portray some of the skills that are actually learnt within the british army. Some of the air assult ones shown last year were a bit glorified though!

I think it was more a case of attracting the right kind, its all part fo the weeding out process. Only those up for a challenge would go to the careers office after that ad.
