Rainbow Six - Tom Clancy

Post by ali_hire »

I'm referring to the book rather than the computer game.

Just getting to the end of this now and it has been one of most enjoyable reads I've had recently. I will certainly be checking out some of Clancy's other work.

It is pretty long but the narrative is at such a fast pace and the action so quick that you don't really notice.

God no! I really don't understand Mr Cancy's continued success.

Rainbow Six had so many inaccuracies, bizarre dialogue, and strange behaviour by the characters that I haven't read any Tom Clancy since.

In my opinion he should have stopped after 'The Hunt for Red October'.

Give his so-called factual books on the US military a miss as well, as they are chock full of mistakes.

Each to his own, but I personally don't look for factual accuracy when reading fiction. A good narrative and well constructed plot count for much more in my eyes. I certainly wouldn't sit watching Superman and state that it is factually inaccurate because people can't really fly and shoot lasers from their eyes.

I couldn't say that anything I've read so far has jumped out as being totally ludicrous or even unbelievable but I don't know what exactly you are referring to so can't really offer an opinion.

I too am much more forgiving when it comes to sci-fi and fantasy, but military fiction should be believable, and I don't think that Rainbow Six is.
