Training in pairs

Post by iareglenn »

Decided this would be a good idea so that me and my mate can push each other. The only thing is im quite alot fitter so was wandering if anyone has any ideas for sprint or circuit training in pairs when there is a difference in fitness levels?

Take turns to beast each other mate, he beasts you for 30 minutes and then you beast him for 30 minutes. This means you wont have to keep up with each other but you can push each other further than you would otherwise.

Find a big field and do it there.

Work off each other. You may be the dogs bollox at running he may be the same come map reading. Adapt and improvise so that you both gain from each other in other words.

Totally with Artist on that one. I used to train with a friend of mine, we did a lot of swimming and running. He was a much stronger swimmer than I was, as well as being better at the upper body work, whereas my running was better than his, so we'd alternate training sessions between running and swimming, and whoever was better at whichever we were doing would be able to push the other one hard.

Has anybody got any opinions on my situation, my training partner is no where as fit as me, but he is determined but doesnt train by himself so he only improves by training with me.
Cheers,

well, put your boot up his arse and get him doing some stuff by himself.
tell him to skip in his back garden nice and often. that will help him improve. if he has a complex about leaving the house on his own, its perfect.

if your fit enough, do double his distance.
ie he goes round the track twice, and you go 4 times, aiming to finish at the same sort of time.

or you could both run together, and when hes tired you carry him. he gets a rest, and you get a hell of a workout.:-P

ok when i am training with tom who is fitter than me if i cant keep up with something he gets punished this means in your situation that you will get that longer workout and he will work to his max to put a stop to the punishment win win situation

When doing circuits, do what I do, instead of doing a set amount of reps for each excercise, do 1 minute (or more if you like) of the excercise then 1 minute of the next excercise and so on. I have 1 minute of rest between each circuit then start again. So in total my circuit training is exactly 29 mins (3x9 excercises + 2 mins rest. You'll end up doing a lot more reps than him by the end but you should have both had an eqaully good workout.

You can't really go running together, as you'll not be getting much benefit, but you could do hill sprints together.
