21st training

Post by Jame4rs »

Anyone here who is joining the 21st can you please tell me what kind of training your doing, my routine at the moment is:

Monday= Just under 4 mile jog
Tuesday= Swimming (bad at it)
Wednesday= Just under 4 mile run
Thursday= Every other do some CT
Friday= Just under 4 mile, and every other a 7 mile run

Is this enough?

No one will be able to give you any worthwhile advice with out more information.

How long have you been training ?
How fit are you a the moment ?
When is pre selection ?
Whats involved in pre selection ?
Have you any military experience ?

Rich.

read the quiet soldier if u must but it wont help you its nearly 20 years out of date and selection has changed a lot and frankly its exagerated a big bit your best bet is to try a programme like this (from the uksf training team hand out)
weeks 1-12 conditioning programme

mon BPFA (2 min press ups 2 min sit ups and 1.5 mile run keep record)
tue 20 min swim
wed rest
thursday 30 min steady run
fri circuit train 12 exercises 12 reps 3 times
sat rest
sun rest
(after 2-3 weeks add in a 2 hour walk over hills with day sack on sunday and increase run time each week by 5 mins till running an hour then do 1 run a week in boots)

weeks 13-25 build up programme
mon 40 min run 15lb
tue multi gym (work whole body)
wed swim 100m tread water 1 min x 6
thur 2 hour march 40lb
fri 1.5 hour march 40lb
sat 40 mins streches
sun tab hills 2-3 hours 45lb

weeks 25-36 pre apptitude programme
mon am circuits pm run 10 x 1 min efforts 2 min recovery
tue am 30 min swim pm 40 min run (60% mhr)
wed am rest pm tab hills 2-3 hours 45lb
thur am rest pm 50 min run 60-70% mhr)
fri am multi gym whole body pm tab hills 2 hours 45lb
sat 40 min streches
sun tab hills 45lb 2-3 hours

gradualy increase time on hills and intensity and time of runs use common sense with the programme and increase gradualy each week as you get fitter

In response to rc ive been training for almost 2 months now, i think im pretty fit (compared to what i was which was bad), no previous and to answer the other questions would mean me breaking the law :-?.

Sloth, thanks for the input very much appreciated, only problem is that i cant fit all those things into my schedual, at the moment im working as a full time labourer which takes enough out of me. Although i think ill try to work that into my schedual somehow, thanks for all the input again. :P

p.s thanks for the luck Howard :P
