Raf Regiment Application (Again!)

Post by jon_rafreg »

Hi all. After a very very long 2 years have finally made the decision to re apply for the RAF Regiment! My test scores from 2 years ago still stand so will have my formal interview and medical v.soon.

Also, the process has changed now and before PGAC, applicants have to run 1 1/2 miles in 12 mins and 12 secs at a local gym on a treadmill before being allowed to progress 8) Thank god there keeping it easy!

Anyone else applying soon or at the moment? :)

I belive they introduced the 1.5 run because so many people were turning up to PGAC completly un-fit.

12 mins and 12 secs is a very generous time indeed.

I would have thought they don't have any specific dates but just whenever enough people have got to the PGAC stage.

Best of luck with your fitness test.

Yer not sure why 12 secs.

Bearing in mind the 3 miles has to be run in 24 it seems strange that the mile 'n' half doesn't have to be done much much quicker.

What AFCO are you applying at Tyke?

it is a bit of a random number, oh and PGAC is usually run from tuesday to thursday. unless you live moe than 50 miles from the base in which case they advise you to go up on the monday and stay in the block monday night. on that subject DEFINATLY do this !!! for quite a feww reasons the first being you can get in get your head stragiht and your kit sorted. also its a good opotunity to aquaint your self with the other people on your cse(and find out who tha twats are!!!). the instructors will look at your social skills as well as your fitness. oh and a good pair of boots that are worn in cuz your going to love the tab in the ones they give you if you dont. lol wish i did! oh anf the PGACs are usually run on the first and last week of the month, but it is also based on demand to a certain degree.
HAVE FUN!!!! :D

12.12; to hazard a guess, I would say it's to allow the treadmill to get up to speed and then a steady pace of 7mph (12s to speed up then 8 minute miles - which is ridiculously slow).

Pre Joining Fitness Test

Post by tonylott »

This treadmill run is a recent addition to the selection process for all ground trade RAF applicants and not just RAF Regt. The reason for the 12 seconds is that this is the level worked out by professional fitness gurus, based on a whole raft of factors. I promise you that many applicants will be glad of that extra margin over 12 minuted flat. To put it into perspective, take your best 1.5 mile time and then attempt to reduce this by 12 seconds..No easy task.

Good luck with your application.
