Bad Luck? PRMC Fails...

Post by Spooky »

Luck as 0 to do with it, get yourself fitter and luck will not be a variable you need consider.

What with a lot of people here seemingly failing on the run theres only one obvious conlusion - training FOR the PRMC is not working for everyone.

You guys need to train for BETTER than the PRMC. In fact why don't you guys just aim for the standard of fitness you will need for your commando tests? Taken in moderation and NO bergen runs, but keep training for better no matter what level you attain in the run up to the PRMC and ongoing.

Forget the 3 miles. Run a 6 miler at a controlled pace as fast as you can. If you can get a 6 miler out in a really good time a three miler won't be a drama.

Recently after a bit of a dip Ive stepped up my training a lot; now im getting 4 miles out in 26 minutes. 10 miles in an hour & nine. Im not on a magical training program, Im just getting out and doing it. Theres my target, theres my stopwatch: Standby, GO and all that.

This will sound pretty harsh but despite whats said:

If your failing your PRMC your either not trying hard enough or you simply do not have it in you (*yet* - hopefully). That aside there will always be other mitigating factors involved, like 987948 degree weather at the mo or injury/illness but those are in the minority.

If you lads want to get fit, spend less time pissing your lives up the wall discussing training programs and get out and train. And train to be as fit as you possibly can be.

Forget PRMC timings, you objective is to be a Marine. The PRMC is a SMALL step on the route to your green lid.

Anyone whos read all this: Good on you. Now get 50 out for wasting time not training.

I like your attitude Spooky.

I'd have to say when I failed the POC it had nout to do with bad luck and everything to do with me being a little faggot mincer. The same as when I pass PRMC it won't be down to luck rather it will be down to the big pair of balls I've been cultivating.

Now can you post your training schedule you use to get your run times so fast. :P

Well i would push out the 50 but its a rest day, since i have done my prmc, i know that i should have trained harder, i found that the prmc wasn't the hardest thing ive done but in the end no matter how hard you have trained it comes down to how much you want it, you need to be 100% committed to getting through each and every point. There were many points in each of the fitness sections that i just want to quit, but i wanted it, so i refused, let me tell you, when you get to the second day, you're not fresh feeling, you don't even want to get out of your luxurious bed, you're sore from the 3 miler and gym test 1, but you're there for a reason, everyone here wants a shot at that green lid, but no matter how fit you are, if you don't want it then you won't get it. You should indeed know what you're geting yourself into when you step on that train to travel down the lympstone ctc, you have to look yourself in the mirror that morning and tell yourself that you're ready for what they are going to throw at you, so when you train think about what you're going to do first, don't get 3 miles as spooky said, go 6 miles, the warm up and warm down are hard and they wil have you sweating, you need to be able to do these knowing you can pass. if you have the mind set that you're just getting by then you should be worried! I completely agree with spooky when he says there is no bad luck, its just bad training and bad mental composure, when you get there it is you and only you that will make it through that course. sorry that this is harsh but you gotta be willing to take a bit of pain. Pain is temporary a green beret is forever, just came up with that. but sounds good!

I passed the same PRMC as Hankins, and let me tell you, Luck is not something that should even be considered. We are starting recruit training together on the 31st. I am only 16 years old, and out of about twelve sixteens year olds on the course only 4 of us passed. At the beginning of the course there was 44 of us, who all thought we were good enough, and at the end there was 19 of us who passed. Im not Brilliant at maths but thats, id say about a 60% drop out rate. The point Im trying to make is that at the end of the day,
99.99% NEED NOT APPLY.
Fitness plays a massive role, but the real factor is Strength of Mind. Just keep saying to yourself that you dont give up!

yep true, i dont think thers no such thing as luck, if its going to happen its goin to happen, youve got to make it happen for you, it does finish the tests do end, and it is easier said than done! in your training sessions you should be blowing out of your arse before you even start the timer!

This attitude is what so many people are missing.

I have been on holiday on a campsite in Italy for 3 weeks.

The heat was 45degrees C most days.

there was a gym on the camp, but it had no air conditioning.

i would be home at 4am every night after parties with people i met there at the clubs etc.

Then id wake at 8am very hungover, go to the gym for 2hours work my ass off, and then by 10am id be doing lengths in the pool.

The attitude is what i describe as;

"Stfu (Shut The Fcuk Up) and train"

Every good marine has it.

Seb

Good post lads. We lost 11 people on the 3 miler on my one. A couple got injured, so fair enough but the others either quit or didnt make it in time. I think in preparation for the PRMC, some people forget that you also get a fairly harsh warmup beforehand and THEN its the 3 miler.

Like everyone has said, there are times on your PRMC where you are achy or are being beasted so hard (on bottom field especially), that you want to quit. I cannot stress enough, mental strength and preparation is as important as physical preparation.....you HAVE to want it.....think of earning that green beret.....
