I did crap on my test and had to get over level 11 on the bleep. I was aiming for over level 11 any way but it would have been nice like nick said not to have this extra pressure. One lad in my room only got level 10 and needed to get over level 11 so they let him have another go at the bleep test before gym test 2 but he only got 10.6 so failed.

so what is the value of a then

I don't actually think it is possible to be able to give an answer to the above, as the below calculation does not produce a total therefore, it is impossible to work it out.

Trick question.
a+(2a+1)+(2a+1) =
Assuming you mean a a+(2a+1)+(2a+1) = 0

Then a = -2/5

Yeah it was a trick question, they gave you options like...
" a) 6
b) 4a
c) 2ab
d) none of these "

So it is actually quite easy if you read the question and see that its impossible to answer if they're asking for the value.

Another piece of advice I spose - Read the question.

Hahaha fair play....Hope this hasn't scared people who haven't had their pyschometrics yet to sh*t.

There was only one of those questions by the way, and it was by far the hardest.

Since its multi-choice, just make a realistic guess. You don't lose marks for wrong answers

Multi-guess aye? Sounds good. :D

Might buy a GCSE maths book, could be potentially embarrasing. :P

There's only a couple of questions that are anything like GCSE-level. I think they were mostly like:

Q: Bill has an orange. How many oranges does Bill have?

a) 1
b) 37
c) he has an apple
d) is that an arse or an elbow?

I thought i had failed, and talked to the corporal afterwards, and he said you have to score round about 50% to pass at a decent enough level for royal marines. The way he put it was like marines are idiots. He said how smart do you have to be to pull a trigger. I have the qualifications to go for officer, and still i found the test to be trying! Just make sure you do some prep before hand. The corporal is right though in a sence, they need to know you can at least think on your feet, which i agree with.
Joined the Corps as a recruit in 2007, Still in today :D

The maths is pretty easy, I hadn’t done it for two years and I passed. I didn’t get told my score though. If you get 50% you’re pretty much eligible for any job going, as a recruit. There were 8 people at mine and one failed. The only maths I practised on was long multiplication.

They do it regardless of grades to put everyone on the same pitch, people with degrees, NVQs or even no qualifications can be hard to compare against without a standard test.

For the guy going for officer, at the AIB you will get a document 10 times as big and twice as hard. My careers officer gave me one. He also told me you will never finish it in the time limit aloud so don’t be disheartened if you found you have only completed one page and your time is up.
