Opportunities for intelligence work in the Royal Marines
Hello,
I am a Canadian who has joined the Royal Marines; I've passed the PRMC and am waiting to start the basic training.
The Royal Marines brochure talks about the opportunity for intelligence work as a General Duties Rifleman.
Does anyone know what this intelligence work entails?

Every meal a banquet, every paypacket a fortune...
Only joking
I think they are called Y troop based at Stoneleigh.
Very small unit.
Their primary role is eaves dropping using sophisticated radioequipment.
Selection isnt really based on fitness but like I said language interpretation.
Just to pi55 off the examiners The officer allegedly wrote his final exam in Russian.
Passed of course

Int section in a Cdo RM comprises of 1 Lt (Int Offr) 1 SNCO usually a GD Draft (I remember Tommo being banned from the CO's O'Groups because he leaked the info to the troops during Haven...) 2 Mnes one Illustrator and 1 GD. They form part of the Cdo HQ and their vehicle makes up part of the Command Post (CP) in the field they work with the Ops Offr (Operations Officer) making sense of information recieved over the various nets (Brigade and Commando Level) usually advising on enemy weapons, strengths, vehicle recognition, and preparing the CO's maps both in the CP and for his TACticle HQ.

Intelligence opportunities in the RM
Hello Nomad,
Thank you for the information. It was very helpful. I was also wondering if it's particularly difficult to get into the Int section. After having earned my green beret, is it possible to find myself in the Int section as my first work experience?

Op Ajax
There are things you can get into if you're right for it. Op Ajax is something that you may want to look into. There are others but you'll find out about that once you're in.
To be honest mate don't get too wrapped up in what to do once you're in a unit, just concentrate on getting training cracked and getting there first.
