Can slow learners become marines??

Post by mitch_boxing »

Hi people

I have been told by a lot of royal marines that when you get to start Marine Training, one of the hardest parts is taking lots of information in over a short period of time. Basicly if your a slow learner, you'll get backtrooped, is this true? I really want to become a marine badly, I do take a bit of time to understand things but I think if I study about the soldiering and fieldcraft before hand I can overcome this obstacle. Anyone know any books about soldiering? I wont let this hold me back anyway.

Thanks

Dont worry about it fella, i am solid and i went through as an original, there is a steep learning curve, however the drills and skills will be drilled into you to such an extent, that the majority of it will become second nature.

Mitch don't worry about it mate the mob have a good way of making you learning, e.g. doing it over and over again! But make sure you practice the right way.

One VERY good tip is to buddy up with a mate who is good at learning and find out how they learn, I mean how they remember their weapon drills?

This worked very well for me. The guy (ex NCO) who wrote the article on Para fitness is a best mate of mine, I had failed the same subject at college twice and he went through it with me to find out where I was going wrong....Never looked back from there. I now have a Master's degree :)

Good luck MFAT

Best advice mate is if you dont understand.stick your mitt up and say so.too many blokes will sit there thinking what the fook is he going on about but are too scared to ask. Be aware.theres a fine line between asking someone to explain something again and asking bone questions for the sake of it. you`ll see.
