Trouble with them old feet

Post by DabDab »

Hello everyone, sorry if i am talking rubbish here as i do not know if a product for this even exists but i was wondering wether anyone had anything to harden and toughen up there feet.

When ever i go on a long run blisters the size of acorns pop up and although i can run through the pain barrier im fed up with my face looking like iv just seen my parents at it as im hobbling along at 2 mph.

So is there anything out there or is it just a plaster them up and keep at it job?

Buy a bottle of Surgical Spirit BP from the chemist and rub it into the feet once or twice a day.

You can do it on broken skin (blisters) as well if you like, it hurts like buggery but hardens the skin up faster. Don't overuse though, or it will make the skin too tight and you will end up splitting it & causing another break.

PS for new blisters you can also try using Compeed blister plasters, they work a treat.

Sarastro I went in to Boots to get some (wrong place?) it was something like £3 for a very modest sized bottle!

Bearing in mind I thought you are meant to put your feet in a basin of the stuff to soak I'd require a bank account like Bill Gates to see me through the 9 weeks I have left till RT! You are just meant to apply lightly?

On a postive note managed to get hold of some Neatsfoot Oil, as recommended on the PRMC leaflet and my boots are actually enjoyable to walk in lol.

Put some zinc tape around your heels, balls of feet and toes. Dont totally wrap around the foot as this causes swelling and "issues". But make sure there is minimal creasing in the tape and take it all off once your finished.

Wont harden your feet but will prevent you thinking of your Mum and Dad at it when your running

Seen some idiot`s foot who wrapped the tape right round, cut of circulation, toes looked like Ribena berries. I`m sure he lost some of them, could be wrong though.

Not a good idea to wrap all the way round I think. ;)

Take the Doc's advice, this was a good remedy for some people back in the 80's. It still sounds like a good formulae.

However, blisters are normally casued by running in boots. If you're running in training shoes and getting blisters I'd check your trainers and even your socks in case they're causing friction when you run.

Cross trainers are recommended for running. If you don't know what they are ask one of the people in the sports shop. They have better cushioning when you run.
