They join for comradeship and the feeling of belonging.
They are there to act as a deterent. They will only shoot to kill in a war, normally, not of their own making. (Iraq, excluded.!)
Any body who joins the Armed Forces with the stated expression of "wanting to kill people", would be excluded.

Dont get me wrong mate, Ive never believed that people join the army to kill people. But you have to admit that thier are some people who show a disturbing indifference to death and violence.
When all you 12 year olds are actually faced with the prospect of taking a life, then see if you feel the same. There's also the little problem of the fig.11s on the 2 way range firing back at you. I imagine that if you asked most on this site, they'd be more than happy to go through their career without having to kill anyone, its a necessary evil of the job that you accept but no one should lust after it.
Aye. There are a few of my friends at school, who are complete idiots.
Telling me that they are going to join the army, then tell me the exact regiment and that they cannot wait to go shoot people. They don't seem to realise that is not what the army is about; sure shooting people is a part of the army, but hopefully most serving members don't have to go through with it.

So because some itinerant third world labourers starve to death, despite the fact there are huge areas of the third world lying fallow, it somehow justifies the fact that Muslim extremists, from wealthy Yorkshire families, go around blowing up British civilians on their way to work?

I'm glad that you think 7/7 was a small price to pay, I only hope the families of those who perished agree with you! You really are an opinionated prong aren't you!

You sir are an idiot.Piss off and post your drivel on some other website.
No "innocent" human life in this war against terrorism is a small price to play, regardless of what part of the globe they come from, but however i am British and do feel it that much more when it is British people being killed. This really is not the right place (if there is one at all) to post such comments as"7/7 is a small price to pay".
If i remember correctly (appologies if not) you have admitted in the past to posting stuff to stir things up or to play devils advocate as you put it, if this is your way of doing it then you are a little T***.
