So you're all hiding here! Came back after time away and couldn't find the ruddy joining and training bit. Got all confused that I had to re register on military forums.

I'm still waiting until January for OASC...

Sorry to be pedantic, but is the text speak necessary? It takes me twice as long to read your posts as anyone elses!

Hiya Rogue,

I live on the south coast nr Chichester. A bit of a trek from where you are! It would be awesome to get a date sooner than 4 months! But at least it gives me time to totally prepare I guess. I saw that you are a fitness instructor, do you have any advice for shin splints?

Cheers

hey blachhawk, yes you are being a wee bit pedantic but don't worry about it i shan't type txt style anymore, its just that i was in a rush and had to do it quickly. not sure why that took you so long to read but all to their own. anyway im sorry, i wont do it again
EHG, well the best thing to try and prevent shin splints is whilst sitting down, tap your feet but doing it slowly so its a contolled movement. raise your toes as high as you can from the floor whilst keeping your heel on the floor. once your toes are at the top of the movement then hold it for a second. just keep doing this for aslong as you can whenever you can and this will strengthen the necessary muscles to prevent or even treat mild shin splints. also i recomend taking glucosamine sulphate as it helps repair your body and feed your synovial fluid which helps keep everything running smoothly and acts as a shock absorber to all the joints, its great stuff. hope this helps

splints and waiting times

Post by GemmaLS »

Guess I'm not the only person with shin splints then - wasn't happy today when the doctor told me no sport for 3 weeks  !

As regards waiting times for OASC, my filter interview was 12th January (2005) and my letter inviting me to OASC arrived 22nd March and my OASC date was 24 May. I'm now waiting for the result from the October sift. I guess I was pretty lucky when I consider how long other people have had to wait....

Pilot & WSO. :)

I want to fly, but being an Officer is important to me.

I know how shin splints feel, just getting over them. Took 4 days off work and just stayed in bed. Use a lot of deep heat and take very strong painkillers. Mine were agony and I couldn't put any weight on my legs at all.

This is a very good source of info for what happens at OASC:

http://www.pmfhk.cz/Katedry/RTO/TR-034/TR-034-$$ALL.pdf

Describes the process, what the boarding officers look for, and how they decide, etc.

I have had them on & off for the past year! I cant get rid of them! I have tried everything- I bought orthodics (expensive)!! :-? Had acupuncture, physio, ultra sound, healing & tried different exercises! NOTHING!! The pain only stops when I give running a break, not good!

That link is a great insight thanks GemmaLS, hopefully my application wont take too long then! I had my filter interview on monday and by friday they had already asked my referees for info, hopefully this is a good sign!
