How do you prevent pop-ups?

Post by Jon »

Everytime I open a new web page I got attacked by pop up messages. It is especially bad for me because my computors old and crap and the messages use half my modem capacity! My family also uses it from time to time, and every so often I get pop ups from porno sites so it would be nice if I could prevent them. Anyone know how?

There is a free program you can download called "Lavasoft ad-aware".
It should find the source of the pop-ups on your computer.

I installed a Norton Firewall, cleared up the whole problem in one.

Mozilla Firefox is a free internet browser just like internet explorer, it does exactly the same stuff as internet explorer in my experience and more it has in built pop up blocker. And as im informed from a computer geek of a friend, half of the virus' and crap on the internet are written for internet explorer and consequently wont touch mozilla firefox. I have been using it for a month and a half now and its seems superb. You dont get any of those annoying toolbars and junk that seem to miraculously appear on explorer either. :D

I'd seconf Rugee's views on Firfox. I've had it for a couple of months and its great, there are lots of different lug ins you can get for it that make net browsing easier as well.

Thanks for the help everyone. I downloaded that google toolbar, but it just closes some of the pop ups after they have already loaded up. Ill give the others a go.

If you have XP? the option to block pop-ups is in 'internet options', although some do still manage to find their way into the middle of my screen
