Application process

Post by JdOnline »

Hi all,

Ok, I passed the BARB test this Monday and have just handed in my medical questionnaire to my GP (hopefully he won't piss about with it  ).

The questions playing the most on my mind at this stage are:

1. The recruiter told me the next intake for my trade is the end of November, then January. He claimed I could be on the November intake; however, I have read many accounts of the application process taking up to and over 6 months. Would it be wise to expect an intake date so close, and if not, would I make the January intake?

2. What part of the application process takes the longest? I have read that it is the medical questionnaire part (where I'm at). Is this true?

BTW, I've done a search of the forums on these answers, and it just added to the confusion :(

Thanks

It took me 11 months in total to get in the army from handing in my application to starting basic training. I know my friend Jobag took around 4 or so months, so there is no set time of how long it will take. Just hope for the best and stick at it. I kept going in to see how it was comming along, and there was always something like waiting for Med Documents to get back from doctor or MOD Med clearence. Just hope for the best and stick at it.

Thanks for replying. Wow, 11 months is rediculous, even 4 is pushing it. I was expecting to be on the next intake this January at the very least. Why make enthusiastic people wait, when they are ready for immediate training?

Anyway, so the recruiter was telling porkies when he said I could be on a November '05 intake? Bloody hell :x

I gave my GP the medical forms yesterday, so I was thinking about giving the AFCO a call next week to see if anything has happened. This shouldn't look to bad should it?

EDIT: I've read in the booklet, and heard from my recruiter that getting to the selection stage should take no longer than 4-6 weeks. Is this true?

You could be, it all depends on circumstances. don't worry about ringing them, i done it all the time. But they can only do so much, the rest is down to your GP (took nearly 3 months to send my med docs off) and MOD Med Clearence, passing selection etc and then its upto the next available intake, 2 1/2 months after passing RSC i started.

I first went into the AFCO at the beginning of July and passed RSC on 8th August. So just over 6 weeks, which included a 3 week wait for Med Documents. I was then offered to start basic on 22nd I think of August, but had to wait due to current work unitl 10th October.

Thank you guys for replying.

I'm hoping it only takes 6-8 weeks for my RSC, then the next intake, which should be January for the trades I'm looking at. I wish some more people would reply with how far they have got and how long it has taken. I just need an idea of how long its gonna take, so I'm prepared.

BTW, anyone noticed how difficult it is sticking to a diet? God damn! I'm constantly feeling hungry, yet I've checked my calorie intake and its right for me and my activity level, bloody hell! Makes it worse when living at home and everyone in your family buys in junk food

Thanks again guys
