Trainee Gunner Course 21/08/2005

Post by PaulSyorks »

Hi all. Just wondered if anyone else is starting TG on 21st August? If so how is your preperation going? What sort of stuff you been doing and do you feel prepared? My prep has gone excellently so far with only just over a week to go. Just can't wait to get through those gates on the 21st.

Well done on getting the date,
Just remember, always muck in on block jobs (domestic evenings)
And also regardless of how tired you are when you get back from the days training activities start getting on top of your admin for the next day, youll find it cuts down on the going-to-bed-at-3am experiences.
Oh yeah, if the washing machines are being used dont be afraid to hand wash your kit, u can probably get it sorted sooner than if you wait for the machines to be free.

Good information thanks. Also while on the subject of laundry what is the availability of ironing boards? I'm travelling by 2 trains so would preferably not want to have to carry one if possible?

Ironing Boards, normally id recommend to anyone to take their own as there is an ironing board cupboard for each of the four rooms that your flight will be split in to where there wil be maximum one crappy old ironing board though, they may still sell them in the naafi spar shop think theyre about 15 quid, it should be on of your first purchases if you dont take one down though. :D

I apologise! Well, I wouldnt take one, when I did my basic and branch training, they provided Ironing room's, or atleast an iron board per mess.

As usual, some good & some duff gen. Personally speaking, if you can take an ironing board with, or even buy one when you get there, then do so. You don't want to be waiting on your oppo's finishing with the comunal board. And if you're anything like half the servicemen I know, you'll iron your kit, go do something else, then not be happy with a certain crease or the overall standard and you'll want to do it agan. £20 in the grand scheme of things isn't bad, especially if it saves you some grief!!

Iron on the floor! No need to drag an ironing board on the train, dont you have enough kit to carry? Wait till you finish and move onto your next establishment, with the kit they will provide you with.. not feesable, when you have two big bags of civvy and royal kit to carry an ironing board.

well they send all your service kit on for you through movements anyway IF you finish basics. come back from your leave and abracadbra its made its on way there.
But the ironing board is an invaluable bit of kit

Really? Didnt forward it for me, granted I went to blackpool for the weekend before going to Sultan and ofcourse I was RN instead of RAF; they didnt offer. Didn't they give an kit-list? Was it on there? I wouldn't take one.. and my step-bro didnt when he did BT for the RAF.
