Farkin treadmills!

Post by BERTAVFC »

Made my first attemt at PJFT today, feeling very confident with my best mile and a half being around 8.35 ( on running track). Well I wish I hadnt!, jump on the treadmill got up to a steady 10.5 mph then let go of the handrail, cue me jumping around like a lunatic to get balance then my calf went POP  , Had to abort the attempt in complete agony!!. The worst news I had was that I have to wait a minimum of eight weeks for another crack!!. Well I'm to doctors to get the SP on my leg, then I think I'd better go and join the gym to get some practice on one of the infernal treadmills, GUTTED!!.

I was told around 10mph (16kph) would get you in around 9 mins plus the time it took the belt to get up to speed.

Some of the treadmills only go up to 10mph and some go to 13mph max. Some accelerate faster to the max speed. Also make sure the gradient is at the lowest level whils't doing the PJFT.

If you want to make the 1.5 miles in 09:30 run at 9.6 mph (15.36km). Bear in mind the speed up at the start could take 20 secs. so boost the last 30 secs accordingly.

I tested it out today just to see what speed is needed to get 9.30 and found that running at 16km is pretty risky to get in the 9.30mins even with speeding it up to 17km near end, must be to do wiht the machine speeding up at start.

I also tried the 16kph speed from the start of my run today, and got exactly 9 mins (including the belt speeding up) so it must be the type of treadmill used. Absolutely nacked by the end though, I'll keep tryin lol.

Does the PJFT have any relation at all with the VO2 Max bleep test score ie 9:30 = potential lvl 12?

I remember hearing this once, but I have been unable to find anything to back it up. Probably has nothing to do with it.

Btw, I did my PJFT at L.A Fitness, too, but the one in Leeds. They do take about 20 secs to speed up, but as soon as he sets the lvl, whack it on 16kmh and you're through.

Looking at some of the other posts it looks like everyone does the PJFT at LA Fitness.

I have had membership at two seperate ones and the treadmills at both only go to 16kph and take about 40 seconds to get there. I'm guessing they have the same make and model at all of the gyms.

So best bet is to put it at 15-16kph all the way through as its a ballache speeding it up and slowing it down whilst your running on it.

When I did it, I had to wait 30-40 secs whilst the instructor slowly increased the speed to 14kph, which was a p!ss take, cause on the test run it accelorated much faster, but I just whacked it on 16kph when I had the chance and ended up with a time of 9:18 min.
