Hi,
After 5 months of waiting I finally got the letter on saturday giving me a date to attend OASC. Although June is a month and a half away ( really not that long) I had started to prepare a few months ago. After reading posts on this site regarding the decline in recruitment etc I started to have my doubts about even making it this far, but kept on with the preparation none the less.
I would basically appreciate any advice, tips or kicks in the right direction regarding final preparation for OASC and the actual 4 days itself. Anything that anyone could provide would be much appreciated.
Many of you have already provided me with alot of information regarding my chosen branch Ops Spt Int and its training programme, all of whom I am much abliged to for your time and help.
Im sure alot of you have been here so any advice would be greatly received.
Thanks

OASC Date June 2005
General Advice....
Just the obcious things really... Make sure you have every RAF publication on aircraft and weapons etc, know where the RAF are and why... also where they have been and why. Read a decent paper, listen to radio 4. Make sure you know yourself!! (when and where you went to school, clubs etc, why you want to join, blah blah). Also dont neglect to do a bit of running!

Live,
As has already been recoommended a trawl throught the previous posts will be most helpful, however I do have a few suggestions :-
1. Get fit, more specifically run !!!
As the fitness test (bleep test) is the only part of OASC that you can
ensure you get 4 out of 4 for (max points). Also try the bleep test
before you attend.
2. Pick 6 home and 6 key worldwide current affairs topics (Such as death
of Yasser Arafat, USA Election) learn them indepth, discuss them with
anyone who will listen and formulate opinions on them. Ensure that
your worldwide topics are spread around the world, and that your
events are picked from over the last year not just the last few months.
3. Make flash cards on all aircraft and ask your arents/partner/housemate
to test your knowledge on them or at least 5 mins a day.
4. Ask your local AFCO if they do a TLC (Teamwork, Leadership and
Communication Day) - Liverpool AFCO did and it is a basic run through
of all the elements of OASC - so you get to do a practise group
discussion, interview etc - and this is really helpful as basically you get
a feel of what is coming and where you faults etc are.
5. Don't just prepare for the interview - remeber the part two elements
(bleep test, group discussion) are all worth the same as the interview
points wise. Do an internet search on group discussions, group games
as this will help you identify the skills the board will be looking for and
help you ensure you include them.
Well, I hope that helps if you have any more questions dont hesitate to ask or send me a personal message ... but only before the 29th of May (Start of IOT).....

OASC
Just a quick one.
Welsh Bird has summed up effectively everything you need to learn/prepare before going to OASC. Do what she says and you should be well placed when it comes to selection.
Good to hear a few are starting IOT on the 29th May. I meet some people at my Part 2 medical with the same start date a couple of weeks ago!!
I know this is a bit off topic but I feel the right people have already contributed to this forum.
I start the new IOTC at the end of November. With this in mind I know there is obviously no one who has completed this course and so advice and tips arent particularly easy to find. Is there anyone around these forums that knows anybody on the OCTR Board who might be able to shed a bit of light on the situation/content of the new course. (I have read the 'Extract of a brief on the new IOTC' posted a few weeks ago)
Cheers guys and good luck to those going to OASC in the coming months and those starting 'The Journey' next month.
