Recently Passed RSC

Post by Bettzy »

Evening everyone,
My name is Tom an this is my first post :) I just turned 16 a week and a bit ago.
I have recently succesfully completed the Recruit selection center (5th of April to the 6th) and i am so so so pleased as i did very well. My first job choice was of course 'Para' and that was what i was working towards. I knew it was physically demanding and very hard to get the required results but i pushed myself to the limit. Here are some of the scores i got
Heaves - 16
I lifted and passed all the back exercises
1.5 Mile - 9.15

I wasnt too surprised that i did 16 heaves (not being bigheaded) but i attend the gym regulary and i am very built but the thing im most shocked with is that i got 9.15 in my run. I am shocked because in my pipe line test about a month before RSC i got 9.49!!! I came second out of about 50 people, #1 got 8.51 but he was 17 and a boxer so i was very happy with my time. In the interview i was passed and told i would be attending Harrogate in september which makes me REALLY excited!
They told me to get in touch with the careers office in the next 14 days an i have done, the person on the phone just asked who my recruiter was, i told him and he said he would inform her that i passed and thats it. Will i recieve a letter in the next couple of days or what? Anyway if anyone has a question regarding RSC please dont hesitate to ask as i have a strong memory of everything which happened :)
Please write back with anything you like, i would enjoy reading it!
Thanks a bunch, Tom.

Well done.

There are a couple of lads in my platoon who went to Harrogate, and they all enjoyed it. However, for some people it is a great shock when they come to Catterick from AFC because we get thrashed so much and alot of people leave, but dont let that put you off.

You will come to Catterick and start training at week 12, so you will miss all the bullshit from week's 1-12.

Good luck at AFC but just remember, it gets alot harder when you start training at Catterick.

Hey Jobag,
I'm glad you told me they enjoyed Harrogate, that excites me even more! Well im joinin in september so i have many weeks to train myself and get my phyiscal side built on. I don't mind the thrashing and beating, i let that all go aside, and think positively :D I will definately not let that put me of lol!

Just one quick question, when you first attend AFC do they do any more physical or medical tests?

Thanks, Tom.

I dont know the answer to that, because i didnt go to AFC, i joined the big boys from day 1 week 1. :P However, in week 1 at Catterick Paras do Screening week which involves physical and medical tests plus the trainasium just to initially find out who has what it takes to start training.

Regarding the thrashings....you will learn to hate them after a few weeks at Catterick. Nobody "doesnt mind" them, and after a few sessions of corridor olympics in full NBC gear you will understand

Ah right nice one dude! And i assume and hope your enjoying it? Ah right the screening is just the basic medicals isnt it, yeh i was just wondering what it will be like from day 1 etc...

Yeah, i don't think i will like the thrashings but there inevitable aren't they so i've just got to accept them! This is what i've trained for so at least i should be ready for them!

Really excited looking forward to everything!
