Avionics takes about 14 months at Cosford. You start off in the classroom doing basic maths/science before moving on to comms/radar and flight systems. Then things get a bit more hands on and you start learning how to fix stuff on actual aircaft.

You won't be doing Avionics training when you first go to Cosford, as you will be an Aircraft Maintenance Mechanic not an Avionics Technician. You do training for AMM, go to a squadron for about 2 years then come back to learn your chosen trade (either avionics or mechanical).

I'm just over half way through my AMM training at Cosford, it's mainly mechanical training, not avionic. It's designed to be just a brief course so you have a basic understanding or aircraft, nothing in depth.
