Work Experience

Post by Ghost »

(Not sure if this should really be in this forum, so bear with me)

Right, I've got to sort out my work experience for next July. Now, I'm wanting to go royal and a week working in an office would probably kill me. Sadly RMs don't seem to do any WE, but the Army do. So my question is, what kind of WE do I want to ask to do if I plan to go royal? Got any phone numbers/addresses for me to follow?

And before someone pipes up, I've tried "The Holy And Ever Useful Search Button" and found nothing.

i have heard of lads doing work experience near me. They went to Fulwood Barracks in Preston. It might be worth trying your local Careers office.

Ghost,

Never heard of anyone doing RM WE, though obviously that doesn't mean it doesn't exist. I did Army WE, good laugh, did SAT range etc. Recommend you do it if you can't get RM, at the end of the day they try to entice you into the job so you don't get much shit and generally have a good time.

Well, it said on the RM website that they don't, but I'll phone them anyway just to check.

Thanks,

Right, I've sorted it. Sent a grovelling letter to Major R J Radice (MBE RA) at the Bristol AFCO, got a reply through my school today. Apparently they can't have me in July, but they've got a placement with 32 Royal Artillery on the 21st-25th February. Which is cool. They're based at Larkhill in Wiltshire, near Stonehenge. I'm extremely pleased about this.

I've been there on a trip with cadets, went out and watched them firing their field guns (whatever they call them nowadays). Not the worst camp around from what I remember either.

I did work experience with the RM commando helicopter force was the best week of my life. I was very fortunate to get it, as family were based there at the time. It was what made me want to go royal rather than the RAF. So all i want to say is make the most of the week as chances are you'll have a scream!

You mean you can do RM work experience? Damn. Oh well, it's too late to change it now and I'm happy with what I've got anyway.

Im in the army cadets so Army Work experience didnt really appeal to me it sounded quite boring and the chaps that went didnt get to do much at all accept go running and stuff, so the reason i went to work in a Firm was because i would have something to compare the Military Life style with and see which of the 2 i would prefer.

Personally i loved every minute of my work experience but i would still prefer the military life by all means!

But you can do a careers aquaint visit which is exactly the same thing but in a different flavour (I think it is the New Labour work experience).
Go to you AFCO and ask them
do that...its a good day
