Post by Robliverpool86 »

Has anyone been taking whey protein?, they reckon its the best one availible for muscle mass gain. I was taking the Weider mega mass one and gained an extra 5kg, ive jus got a tub of that whey protein because ive heard its good.

Theres different Whey Protein, with varying concentrations of protein in. The rest is made up of fat and lactose usually. Why not take it? It wont hurt, even if you just do CV as protein is needed to repair damaged muscles and protect cells from free radicals, so..

Its absorbed quickly into your body, approx 30mins, so I would take two drinks of 30g. Pre and Post workout, the latter being within the golden 15mins after a work out. I think it was Humph (could be wrong) who said he uses Flax seed, this is good stack as FS is an essential fatty acid, which may offer some benefit in lowering cholesterol, decreasing platelet aggregation and insulin resistance. Plus it tastes nutty and flavours non-flavoured Whey Protein a treat.

creatine, or however you spell it would be best. theres a certain one. unlike most body building things it tenses and breaks the muscle, then it grows back stronger. so it does the working out for you. there are certain types though, be careful as some will make you gain mega muscles in weeks. you dont wanna get the stuff that fills your muscles up with water, like steroids and some creatines. but i had a couple m8s who took it and it was impressive. it doesnt make you big but just really toned up, which sounds ideal if you use it with your work outs, say like take a bit every night.

me on the other hand, i dont believe in any of that shit, the results ive got are from working out hard. food is the only thing you need. i eat 3 - 4 meals a day. breakfast, lunch, tea and sometimes a bit more at tea. the only thing i would take is vitamines as i eat no vegatables cause i hate them all. check out some websites.

Try a customising a supplement, something like this:-

25% whey protein
25% casein milk protein
15% maltodextrin
15% fructose
20% flax powder
Take 50-75g a time daily

Also start a 3,000 calorie a day diet (40/40/20) and increase it by 500 calories each week till you see a gain in weight. Good calories, not drink pop, crisps and beer. ;)

You can also go down the creatine route on top of this if you wish, Creatine draws water into the cell membrane much like steroids. It also increases your strength and endurance by stopping lactic acid from entering the muscle. Which is also good for running short distances but not long due the the extra water carried. If you can, buy Creatine manufactured in China its the most pure in my opinion. The Malto and Fructose in this supplement will also increase the effectiveness of Creatine by over 30% too. Once you fill up to the desired weight, drop all weights and just do CV whilst taking lots of protein and you should be fine.

i was very skinny, i was about 7 stone when i was 16 and no matter how much i ate i wouldnt gain weight. now i ususally weigh about 9 stone to 9 and a half. dont do weights. there boring, take too long and boring. i just did press ups, tricep dips. do excersise that work several muscle groups at samr time, like press ups. do your workout at evening or night, and eatr a good meal after. or some prtein stuff if your taking it. try eating more in the morning. like as well as cerial get some slices of toast down you.

I tried whey protein when it first came out in the late seventies/early eighties. I think it was called Casulan and was sold in chemists for recovering body mass after debilitating illnesses. My body mass did increase, but that was probably down to an increased intake of Mars bars, Guinness and oggies. I noticed no measurable effect after using it for about eight weeks that I could atribute to whey protein. Other supplements do work, creatin for eg, but the key is a well balanced diet and plenty of it. High in fatty acids(omega 3) is usefull for joint lubrication etc, so eat oily fish at least once a week or take a supplement. Despite what the training fascists say, beer is a great way to replenish electrolytes, so make sure you get plenty down yer neck 8)
Training is all about training. There are no shortcuts.

Try and take Omega3/Cod Liver Oil/Fish Oil, basically EFAs that dont have Vit A or D in, as you can overdose on these and get cancer, more so if you take a multi vit.

Beer is a diuretic, meaning they cause your kidneys to pull more water out of your bloodstream even as the digestive system is pulling water into your body. They do however contain sodium and loads of other schnizzle, but its one step forward and two back in my opinion. :)
If you would have a bit ale I would have it post work out after sinking two or three pints of water. Maybe then the minerals in it would come more useful. But personally it would be a big no-no. But for hydration, they are only better than um...say, seawater, but that's about it.

I agree that is utter poo. Creatine is incredibly overpriced, overhyped and a ot of people don't even respond to it. You dont have to go to town price wise on whey just look at the protein content on the side of the tub.

I f you want mass then in these are the factors in order of importance

Diet
Training Routine
Sleep

If you are not up to scratch in all three of these areas then you wiont succeed howeber although it seems simple what a lot of people seem to neglect is that you have to

EAT!

You would be surprised how many people neglect this especially newcomers who spend stupid amounts on supplements (that are menatot supplement your diet not replace it) and do poor routines they find in flex magazine which are crap and lead to overtraing in the vast majority of cases.

Stick to a multivit and whey and eat like its going out of fashion. i.e 6-8 small meals a day every two hours.

I tried creatine for a bit a couple of years ago. Brought a big tub for £15, but every time I took it I got a headache so I threw it away. Didnt notice any gains from taking it either. In my opinion, you should only use it if you are going to do some serious weight training.

I wouldnt use protein supplements either. Any excess protein (about over 100g/kg of bodyweight) is simply pissed out of the body, therefore supplements would only be beneficial if you're not eating enough protein to begin with. Just eat more baked beans.

Why do you need supliments?(most of them just fill your muscles with water) they are over priced and unless you spend £££££ and months and months using them then you might as well spend the money on steroids (dont please dont).

I stopt using supliments a while ago, this is what i do:

I blend together Porridge, 1 full egg and 3 egg whites (if you want more fat then add an extra yoke) 2-3 bananas and water (use milk for more callories). If your bothered about the taste then you can get a soya protein (which is as good as any) from holland and barret for about £10, just put a skoop of that in.

I have 3 lucozade bottles and i have one before i train one during and one after (im training about 4 hours a day).

What you need to be watching is that your not over training because if you are your body will start and brake down your muscles as energy and no ammount of supliments will stop that.
