Running Tracks - Miles??

Post by Boxingmad »

Gonna do some running on an athletics track. How many time round is is for 3 miles or 5 miles. Anyone know?

Is it 6 time round for mile & a half?

1600m For 1 Mile = 4 Laps (Obviously if a 400m track)

just as an addition, i can't imagine anything more boring than track running for getting fit. get out into the country or somewhere with a few inclines and avoid left turns, they're bad for your health :)

Yeh ditch the track head out in the wilderness where the real people are. Honestly though cross country running works more muscles than just track running because of all the hills and slopes. Also the fact that you are never on a flat surface really works the muscles.

Also I feel more motivated doing cross country because it feels like your actually going somewhere rather going round and round, and round..... and round somemore on a track.

I like running out and about too...the only problem is that around here, you're likely to tread in many unpleasent dog treats :P Runnning around fields and stuff is good for building up ankle strength too, although track/road running is better for building the calfs...something to do with it not absorbing the shock and sending the shock back up your leg when you run...for instance, imagine the pressure your leg takes if you jump 2m onto a road as opposed to onto a bouncy castle.

yea i think each sort of running exercises different muscles. Im guessing you should get a mix of both though focus more on cross country. Also do lots of sprints which is probably what id use the track for.

Lol, I'm off in Navy as a 'tiff, I just browse all the forums :) 'tiffs get to use the Leading Mess, so we won't be eating poo as far as I'm aware

By the way, hill sprints are great for building your leg muscles up too. Forgot the damned name of it, but alot of the *** exercises help too. Erm, it involves switching paces while running, maybe someone else can fill the name in, lol.

Ran this morning actually, and i have to say it was better than running on the track. As someone said earlier, save the track for fartleks.

I do cross-country fartleks,

well, only because there is no track near me.

A track isn't necessary for interval or fartlek.

I do fartlek on the roads using lamposts as markers. Feels great when i'm sprinting like theres no tomorrow and the drivers stuck in the traffic jam are watching you buzzing past.
