I've just swore the oath today and the recruiting sergeant said he would ring up 4/73 battery recruiting team and let them know of my interest and seelction scores etc. It helps to be earmarked from the start instead of hoping for the future.

I've also chose to go for the RA.
I wanted to join the Para's in a rifle regiment but my mum got to her knee's and begged me not to join as an infantry soldier.
So Im going to join the RA and maybe try out for my wings in a year or so.
My mum still doesnt like the idea of me being in the army but her mind will be at rest a little more knowing I wont be on the front line.

Sorry to piss on your bonfire mate.
I'm currently serving RA soldier(14 Years) and you are on the frontline just as much as the Infantry boys,beleive me i have the medals and scars to prove it, but thats what most of us join for,i have no regrets.

Two of our blokes were attached to the RA (TA) for a tour of iraq last year, (we are infantry), they both came back saying that the whole unit they were attached to were doing purely an infantry job .... all be it not as well as the infantry .......

But I believe that the way the RA works is that you always keep your skills as an infantryman. I read on one of the walls at ITC Catterick that there were more artillery on the beaches on D - Day than artillery, i was very suprised!

I thought the infantry would always be at the front, And RA providing support from a little further back,, Obviously not though.

Why are the RA at the front line then??
