Royal Marine Funeral
The following is a letter that I wrote to the CO of CTCRM.
The events made my heart tingle.
Dear Sir,
Re. Funeral/Memorial Service at Christchurch Priory
I gather that about two weeks ago, there was a funeral of a young Royal Marine recruit, who had, unfortunately, died during training.
A friend of mine also attended the funeral. (She is the grandmother, of a friend, of the young lad.)
She was overwhelmed, not only at the number of RM’s attending, (including, I believe, all his Squad.) -
but at the respect and demeanour of the Royal Marines in attendance. She said she was in tears at the playing of the Last Post.
But most of all, she just couldn’t believe how these young Royal Marines behaved at the “wake”. How helpful, polite and respectful they were. She is now a staunch believer that the Royal Marines are the best.
I have known her for thirty years - and for a lot of that time I was a serving RM.!
The point of this letter is to congratulate the current intake of recruits and of course the training teams. There is so much speculation as to whether the current generation is as good as in “our time”.
Judging by the funerals standard – they certainly are!!
Well done!!

It's good to know that our juniors in age can display such respect and maturity.
