Feel's good to be back

Post by mark_glasgow »

Well alot of things have changed since the last time i was here but it feels good to be back !

Alot of people wont remember me but i will give you a bit of background:

I decided i wanted to be a marine about 2 years ago and started to train hard, i started the ball rolling in may 2003 and went on my PRMC in SEP 2003 along with Davo and a few others from the forums. Unfortunetly on the bottom field i injuired an occuring knee injury going through the tunnels and when doing the 3miler i just couldnt carry on. I got told at the time that i was to go back down in a month but my knee wasnt the same so i left it. After seeing a specialist i was advised that i could get an operation to clean out my cartlidge and repair a tear in my medial ligament or total rest and physio for 9 months. I opted for the second choice because i got told off the AFCO that if i had the op that they wouldnt accept me.

Well after being in crutches and having a leg brace on for months i got given the all clear last month :D

I was really lucky that it worked out good for me in the end but it was the chance that i had to take.

Since its been over a year i have to take all the tests and interviews again so im going down to the AFCO today to fill out the forms and get a test date.

My training so far has been running two 3 milers and one five miler per week along with some FARTLEK running. I can max out press ups,sit ups and pull ups, its the cardio that i really need to work on. Im going to go for a March PRMC date so it gives me enough time to get the cardio up to scratch.

If anybody has any questions about PRMC just ask and hopefully i can answer them for you.

You will know by now, Mark, that wanting something isn`t enough  Lower leg injuries account for the majority of fitness failures during Recruit Training. The injury you describe takes time to heal and given your concerns about your cardio-vascular endurance/stamina, I wouldn`t push the runs too hard. Switch to distance swimming, it`s far easier on the knees and you can push yourself as hard as you want.
Good luck mate  Go out and make your own luck 8)

You are totally right Harry and thats why im going to go for a March time PRMC. There is always that thought in the back of your mind, what if its not healed right? but im confident that ive built my leg strength back up especially my quads over the last couple of months during physio.

I completed all the forms again today and the C.P.O will contact me in the next couple of days with the test date.

Thanks for the good wishes Mitty

Hey Mark,
I remember you from back then, good to hear everything's looking up for you now. I myself failed my PRMC back in July, not due to injury, just poor fitness really. With regards to Harry's post, I would really reccommend heaps of distance swimming if you're able to mate, it's super effective training. Anyway mate, best of luck. I look forward to seeing your posts back on here again, many of the guys who used to post here have disappeared lately (many of them to CTC).
Cheers mate,
Josh.

Cheers Josh

Sorry to hear about your PRMC, are you going to apply again?

I think alot of people dont understand how tough it is going to be especially the bottom field because you dont get told of your AFCO and it's not in the green booklet, If it wasnt for this forum i would never have known.

Good luck

Well done and good luck Mark.

Many would have failed due to an injury and not tried again.

I hope that your knee is healed well enough for you to allow you to continue your chosen career in the corps.

Keep us posted.
yours aye
