Sorry...another one of those 'am I doing enough' posts!

Post by Daveb »

Hello lads.

I got my PRMC on the 28th November and was wondering if I am doing enough training -

Monday Morning - 60 Press ups, 75 Sit ups (these are done in 3 sets, and are low because I had a back injury. I'm back to full fitness now though)
Monday evening - 5 mile run, 5 pull ups
Tuesday Morning - 60 Press ups, 75 Sit ups (done in 3 sets)
Tuesday Evening - Sprints, 5 Pull ups
Wednesday Morning - 60 Press ups, 75 Sit ups (done in 3 sets)
Wednesday Evening - 3 Mile Fartlek
Thursday Morning - 60 Press ups, 75 Sit ups (done in 3 sets)
Thursday Evening - Sprints, 5 pull ups
Friday Morning - 60 Press ups, 75 Sit ups (done in 3 sets)
Friday evening - 5 mile run, 5 pull ups
Saturday - As many sit ups, press ups and pull ups as possible
Sunday - Rest Day

I plan to increase the amount of pull ups/press ups/sit ups each week. I really worried that I aint doing enough though, but at the same time, dont wanna push myself so hard I cause injury.

Any comments/ideas/help much appreciated! :)

There's only 2 things I'd say mate:

1. Do more pull ups. If you're only doing on average 1 set of 5 pull ups a day you're not going to make many gains in my view. Try increasing it to 3 sets of 5 a day instead. If this is too much, reduce the amount of pull ups per set. The other option (and this is assuming you've got a pull up bar & aren't doing your pull ups on goal posts or something) is to just bang out as many as you can during the day every time you pass the pull up bar - works for me.

2. I know you've got a rest day on Sunday, but Saturday is pretty much a rest day as well (as you're not doing very much). Maybe reshuffling the order of things a bit and having a rest day or active rest day half way through the week would be better. On the other hand, if this is working for you then stick with it.

Other than that it looks like you've got all the bases covered. Good luck

Dave that looks fine. But as has been said, do more pull ups.
What is your 3 mile run time like?

Thanks lads :)

I will increase my pull ups as much as possible. You guys have given me a confidence boost! I was really really worried that I'd get there and find out I had undertrained way too much! (I'm not overconfident though! :P)

I haven't timed myself on the 3 miler in a while to be honest. I did the PJFT (1.5 miles) in 8.15 though, if that's any help. I'll time myself tonight on the 3 miler.

Being a whippet's great until you get to the load carrying...the quickest guy in our troop over 3 miles ended up with the rear half of our troop half a click behind after our 5 mile load carry turned into more of a speed march on the way back from Marshal Star!

Try to get your pressups, situps and pullups all together so that when you do the pull ups your arms are already going to knackered. This should simulate PRMC a little more!

Cheers mate, I'll do that :)

One more question....as you can see, I'm doing 3 x long distance and 2 x sprints each week. Do you think I should swap these around? (do more sprinting than long distance)

Cheers

3 x Long Runs and 2 x Sprints is exactly what I do except;
I also do a sprint session after one of my long runs!
Again this should help to simulate bottom field where you need to sprint when you are already knackered!

So do what you are doing but also do one sprint session after one of your long runs!

Hope this helps
Cheers

Kaos,
Your best bet mate is to follow what these guys are doing and read some back threads on the forums as there is more military related phiz info on here than all the books put together.
You have plenty of time to get fit enough though.

Good Luck,
JZ.

Cliodna gave you an anwer in another thread which I think you will find helpful in response to most of your questions.
