Motivation
Motivation
I'm going through a rather low point in terms of motivation to train. I started getting shin splints so I eased off the running and during this time my training partner went off to uni and because I live in a small town I haven't been able to find anyone to train with.
There is also another couple of things going on at the moment which isn't doing a hell of a lot for my morale.
I want to train but I just can't kick my arse out the door as much as I need to.
Any suggestions on how I can get myself back on the straight and narrow would be appreciated.

If you need people on the internet to help motivate you then perhaps you should think about a different carreer mate.
Also if you are getting shin splints then you are doing something wrong, go and see a Doctor, however if your legs hurt when running do something else for a while like swimming.
So get your arse in gear, stop moaning and go out and start training again.

I know what you mean by not being able to motivate yourself. I go through patches where i just cant be arsed. It is just much easier to sit back and watch tv or laze around. But you have to pull yourself away from that routine.

Motivations been a failing for me over the past few months, I just stopped going to the gym as I couldnt be bothered. but now I decided to give that BMF a try out, since its going to be in groups and instucters that will be there to motivate you. First sessions free it seems so I go either tomorrow or thursday if I dont chicken out!

Why not take up a different form of training?
Sticking to the same routine everyday is boring. Change it to something you havent done for a while. Swimming say. The plus to this is that you will aid your shinsplints and also use different muscle groups.
Do you have a bike? Try cycling. Set yourself a distance to ride in a certain time and go for it.
Then when your Shin Splints are not so painful gradually start your running again.
What I'm trying to say is to vary your training, just don't stick to a routine.

The old motivation problem is a big one for me n all mate.. I was doing quite well between august and december last year, hit low, couldn't be bothered so it fell away until about may this year. again it lasted a couple of months before failing again.. Now in October I've just started getting it together again. Of course other factors in your life are going to affect you, job, family, financial, females etc.. (the last two tend to go together i find!!).. It's good to have goals for motivating you, but make them smaller and more acheivable. Make a list and start ticking them off. I've made a list and divided it into short, mid and long terms.. That way you can achieve something every week if you want. With increased achievemnt comes increased motivation and you'll find that getting shin splints won't be as much of a problem coz you can make your goal 50 lengths of the pool instead. Also reward yourself for achiving them. Achieve your time for the month and reward yourself with a saturday in the pub getting bombed.!!
Hope this helps.

I never train at home, I do all my training at lunchtime's or freelessons in school. I find it's so much easier than coming home and forcing yourself to go out and train when it's much easier to sit back and watch tv etc. Plus the chicks love it aswell when you go out for a run aswell. Sometime's my mates come with me aswell so overall it's so much easier.

There's 2 things that currently motivate me for my running -
1.) Because of my future. I hope to join the Royal Marines and I know that sitting at home isnt going to do it, so I force myself out the door.
2.) This may sound stupid, but I bought a US Marine Corps Running Cadence CD and transferred it to my MP3 player. It really keeps you going and makes you run that extra mile. If you listen to it before you go outside, it really pumps you and you get into the mood for running! (This could be just me, but this is in my experience the Cadence has done wonders)
