University Officer Training Corps

Post by Rugby lad »

Hi there.

I've just put my name down to go and visit my local University Officer Training Corps in October.

I've been told there is a mini selection weekend and was wondering if any of you out there know what it entails?

Any knowledge of the fitness and aptitude tests would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers

The selection weekend invovles the following manditory tests:

1) 1.5mile Run - cut off time 24hrs

2) Down a pint of lager - cut off time 7 secs

3) Mess 100m Hurdles - best effort

4) Singing of "Tampax Factory" - must know at least 4 verses

5) Quickfire Aftershocks - 5 in a row without falling down

6) Bird pulling - 4 in one night (minimum).

7) Ex Long Drag - smoke a Marlboro Light in one breath.

Some say these tests are harder than selection, but at as the pass rate is 99.9%, i think whoever said this must be a walter.

Looking at the UOTC students that we get saddled with the selection criteria are particularly low and flexible.

There isn't one of them I would regard as fit or bright enough to be a set of chocks in the RAF.

The only common thread amongst them is that they all think they are like reelly gr8t soldiers and dead brave.

If you are serious about learning about the army, becoming a soldier and contributing to the nation, join a TA Reg rather than an OTC. The OTC is good for drinking, pulling, adventure training and adding more beer tokens to your Student Loan. I have experienced both sides and recommend the TA if you are serious. It is a similar level of commitment (you may not get to play with as many toys as the OTC has money thrown at it).
Having said that, a great many of the guys I did OTC with have passed out of the Sausage Factory and done well.
