If you phone your local unit they will probably have a Holding Troop. One night every 3 or 4 weeks you go along for PT given by a PTI. Don't expect a beasting though, it wont be that bad as they don't want to scare you all away!

I don't no the score up there, but down here it makes more sense to contact the main Unit Det for the area than one of the outlaying Dets, there's usually always permenent staff there that will take details and should be able to send you stuff.
The fact you can't find anyone might be becuase loads of blokes have just gone of to do jungle training (I no a lot of ranks have disapeared from my Unit), plus there might be guys on other deployments, attachments or courses.

If all that fails you can find info on the the RMR and your nearest Unit on the website - http://www.royal-navy.mod.uk/static/pages/2808.html
You should be able to E-Mail them from here.

I didn't get any info packs before I joined, just the Holding Troop Phys! You would probably get more stuff out of the AFCO than your unit.

My AFCO offered me the chance to do PT sessions with the local RMR once a week (unfortunately they're about 20 miles away and I don't drive at the moment!!); don't know if they all do that or only some of the units. May be worth enquiring if you've got a local unit??

I believe some units aren't doing it for insurance reasons, i.e. once you join you are covered

Joining RMR

Post by manutd »

Hi, this is my first post on military forums, just a couple of things I cant seem to find an answer for hopefully one of you guys can assist - Is there an age limit for joining RMR (I hit 30 this August!) secondly the next selection planned for Mcr Det is next year, can I attend the unit during the week to train and see what its all about? Are there any members of the Mcr Det who can advise - Thanks :o

If you had only started looking at this site a couple of weeks earlier......

The interview/selection phase for RMR Mersey (inc. Manchester & Birmingham) was held this weekend - You are probably looking at least 6-8 months before another recruit intake. As far as the age thing goes I was 30 when I joined, I believe there was one lad at selection this weekend who was 32 (He may have had previous military experience though)

Best is to consult the recruiting Sergeant - Tel. 0151-707-3346 ;)

There wasn't any holding troop when I joined, as it says somewhere earlier on this topic it was something to do with insurance....

Thanks for that, gives me a bit of hope, thought I'd left it to late once I'd hit 30. I'll give the recruiting sergent a call like you said, no harm in askin!
