Can someone help me out here? I've been thinking of joining the TA, but I'm not sure whether I'd like it or not.
I heard that its possible to drop out of the TA at any time. Is this true?
I heard that there are 2 phases of training: Recruit training weekends and the CIC. Once you've completed phase 1, does that mean you're signed in for three years?

TA is purely Voluntary. You put in as much as you want to, and get out of it the more you put in.
You are exoected to turn up to Recruit training and at least keep in touch once completed Phase 2 training. If you don't then they will remove you from the books.
If you want to leave at any time you can. Just hand your kit back in and sign the right papers. If you leave after you have completed Phase 2 training as a reservist, you are at risk of being called up for Three years after service (the same as Reg's).

Why can't you accept that some days you're the pigeon, and some days you're the statue.

Thing's may have changed now, but getting kit back off a TA recruit who dosn't want to play anymore, or fails the training used to be quite a task. I have had it thrown at me out of tennement blocks and multi storeys.
So please be nice to your PSI and "Just hand your kit in". OH Boxxcks just give him the same treatment as I got.

I've just graduated from uni as an engineer and done what every student dreads... got a job, so i probably won't be going after a commision in the raf for now (Postponed my interview) i'd like to see where this job goes, but i am still interested in joining the forces.
Is it the norm to apply to be a TA solider first and think about a commision later. Do many professionals (Well profesional to be
join as a solider and see where it takes them?
I mean whats it like going from your job when you're the one asking others to do things for you, to being told what to do by someone else who might be the person you were telling what to do at work. Hope i've made myself clear there.
cheers

I recently just joined the TA. I got my kit issued to me tonight.
This Friday their is annual camp where i have the decision to either go or wait till they get back and then start my recruit training over the usual weekends.
I was wondering if you guys could tell me what i am likely to expect at annual camp as a recruit and whether or not you think it best i go or wait and do the weekends?
Having had no military experience before i am unsure what to do.
Cheers guys.

Ghostbear,
Find out whether the annual camp is purely military skills or a combination of many things including adventure training, perhaps. Ask the other junior ranks what camp was like in previous years, if you feel you could make a contribution, ask one the seniors if you could participate.
May I suggest you lobby to go on annual camp, it may give you more insight into the orders process than phase 1 and 2 (time constraints), that was just my experience.

The regiment mercury and I were in had phase 1 training done during the annual camp as well as adventure training, as I recall being told from those who were there. I did my phase 2 training while camp was on and thus could not participate.I was wondering if you guys could tell me what i am likely to expect at annual camp as a recruit and whether or not you think it best i go or wait and do the weekends?

Our lot go on camp this friday and there's a few who are doing phase 1.
There's no difference from doing it in camp or weekends I'd say except there's a bit more time on w/ends and you have lessons on your drill nights to brush up on the skills or prep for the comming w/end.
Best advice is listen and dont feck about.
