What Ploggers has said is quite correct. When at sea as an embarked force there is not a great deal to do.
So stacks of phys' on the flight deck is the order of the day,in ALL weathers So you have to allow for the deck rising and falling away from you otherwise you can (and often do bash your face on the deck).Star Jumps are another exercise that have been adapted for fightdeck use, always get in the habit of landing with flexed knees, sometimes you might be falling six or seven feet after jumping up when the decks on its way down.
Its something we just took for granted and never thought that you newbies
didn't know.

Since the introduction of Berlei Immobilizer sports bra in the RN, facial injurys have fallen by nearly twenty per cent. And that`s just amongst Chiefeys :o
Shoulders, what about Burpees mate! Especially at night :o Vindictive PTI times it so the deck hits you smack in the face and there you lay with a gob-full of golden rivet.
I`m wincing now, at the thought of it

The worst of doing Phys onboard is when it comes to vaulting over the old vaulting horse.

One bloke leap onto the horse did a double back somersault and leap into the Oggin (the sea)! Took 45 minutes to turn the ship round and pick him up. Thank God the Navy makes you do Phys in a Lifejacket is all I can say!

Just try doing Pushups with an Assault Life Jacket over your Neck. It's bloody hard!

Gary, the lad who started this post, started phase 1 training last month. I hope he has the knack of push ups by now...

The best part about being a passenger on the grey funnel line is that in your spare time there is so much to do.

I well remember the happy nights playing snooker in the sports hall.

The ten pin bowling alley was another favourite.

The balmy days bronzying on the sundeck, the one they so thoughtfully put those nice little nets around the outside of, very colourful, I think there were looking for a sea-side theme when they decorated it.

Then when they took those big smelly boats out of the dock and let us use the swimming pool for its correct purpose, what fun we had, "Shark ho" that was our catchphrase.

All the while in the background the soft lilt of tropical music wafted from the concealed speakers and the smell of fine cuisine tantalised our nostrils.

Phys, yes there was phys, but as the lads have already said it was with Naval Bent, pun intended. What fun the bits of skin had as they played "Hide from the Stoker" and "whoops there goes the soap".
Archie.

"AWAY YOU CHEEKY SEA GOING TYPES"

Can't you see the poor lad has a dilema, I would love to help but unfortunately being ex Armoured I'm totally unfamiliar with push ups, we used other methods to strengthen the arms. A good one that could be done in the gunners seat on night marches was................oh those long night marches,if you sat on your hand for half an hour it was like somebody else was

Dave I was plagued with with the ole CONVOY C**K on many the occasion. Gave a whole new meaning to Pushups!

These impotent types who take Viagra should just buy a L/Rover and drive up an down the motorway for 6 hours is what I say. After one hour they will be standing tall for Britain.

Convoy Cock? That's a new one. I always referred to it as Diesel Dick.
