P3 entry

Post by dookie1412 »

Thanks to anybody who has replied to my previous questions, i have made my decision to apply as Aerospace Systems Op, and have the aptitude tests later this month, i just have a few more questions to ask,

what experience have peple had of the aptitude tests, they appear to be simple enough, but does anybody have any tips that would asisst me in preparing?

How does the interview at the afco compare with the interview at cranwell, i passed the interview there although it was very difficult! what knid of prep would people reccommend?

To what extent do i need to be physically prepared, i cannot find any info on the weight requirements for entry?

How long could i expect the process from now through to Halton (hopefully) to take?

Any help will be gratefully accepted,

Cheers

Hi I recently sat the aptitude tests. You should have recieved a booklet from your AFCO with some practise questions in. I don't know if anyone had the same experience as me but I found these to be easier than the actual test you do at the AFCO, so keep practising.

The questions I had problems with personally were the Work rate, Spatial Awareness (turning the 2d shapes to make bigger shapes) and memory (on the TV).

Just practise DST and try to get hold of any similar questions to practise on, you should be ok, I thought id failed after the test had ended, but I did well enough for my chosen job (WSOp).

As for fitness, I'm not too sure what the requirements are, perhaps somebody else on here might have an idea...?

Theres a topic somewhere about waiting times for joining up, somebody had to wait 20 months I think, it would vary I imagine depending on vacancies, trade training dates etc.

Anything else anyone?

It might help to dig out your old GCSE revision books. Practice your mathematics. Familiarise yourself with the Electrical and Mechanical stuff.

You don't go to Cranwell for selection for ASOP. It is a P3 trade and is dealt with at the AFCO. If you were applying for P2 entry (Officer - Fighter Controller) then you would find the selection much, much harder. There are separate threads on OASC.

To what extent do i need to be physically prepared, i cannot find any info on the weight requirements for entry?

You'll find out at the medical. It depends upon your height and frame size. Unless you're a bloater or a bodybuilder, you shouldn't have to worry too much.

Get yourself fit. They want to see that you are making an effort to prepare yourself physically for RTS at Halton. This has more to do with proving your motivation than any requirement to be a fantastic athlete.

You should aim for a minimum of 3 x 3mile runs per week (in under 24 minutes).

How long could i expect the process from now through to Halton (hopefully) to take?

The trade is probably closed to recruiting at the moment. You might not get to Halton until next year. If you pass the AST, you can go onto a waiting list. They will conduct the medical and interview when there are spaces available.

Thanks for the advice guys, I can manage 3 x 3mile (24 mins at moment) my size was more my consideration, i can run and am generally quite fit, but im 14 stone, i will have to see what the afco say next time im there

The afco told me that this was on the of the trades currently recruiting, (along with gunner), i hope no one knows differently!

I will have to brush the dust of the GCSE/A level revision books in the loft then!

Thanks again, and any other advice/info on my trade choice would be greatly appreciated

Can confirm that ASOP is currently recruiting, but don't delay in sitting the AST...it will fill quickly.
