"Lest we Forget"
"Why do you still march old man,
With Medals on your chest?
Why do you still greive old man,
For those friends you laid to rest?
Why do your eyes gleam old man,
When you hear those bugles blow?
Tell me why you cry old man,
About those days so long ago?
I'll tell you why I march young man,
With Medals on my chest.
I'll tell you why I grieve young man,
For those I laid to rest.
Through misty fields of gossamer silk,
Come visions of distant times.
When boys of tender age lost lives,
And all their mothers pined.
We buried them in a blanket shroud,
Their young flesh scorched and blackened.
A communal grave, newly gouged,
In blood stained gorse and bracken.
And you ask me why I march young man,
I march to remind you all.
That for those apple blossom youths,
You'd never have known freedom at all."

All I want in life is a cold beer, a fast car, a big F**King gun and a hot woman to fetch the beer, and clean the car! is that really to much to ask? - Quotes by a redneck.com

Last Thursday I was part of the VIP protection team, for the DDay ceremony at Portsmouth. The best part of the whole afternoon was watching 750 veterans march on and take a salute from HRH The Prince of Wales. Each of them marched bolt upright, stiff backed and instep. A few had tears in their eyes. Each wore regimental ties and berets. Many had a chestful of medals. What a fantastic sight.

i dunno if any one was there but there was a ceremony yesterday at the clapham junction TA centre.
It was very good, alot of the old veterans and pearly kings and queens were there.
Free food, free drink, music, singing(lol)
The best part i think was the fact that it was free alcohol for uniform!!

It was a very moving sight seeing all those proud old vets over the weekend.
Overall I thought it was a brilliant commemoration, the weather was brill and there was a genuine sense of togetherness between all the world leaders, even between Bush and Chirac. The only thing that surprised me was that Blair didnt try to elbow his way to the front beside the Queen!
