When I done P-coy, my own personal guage to how well I was doing was to push hard and make sure I always finished with the main squad near the front. Before the trainasium I had the ten miler which I stormed through and was buzzin because Id seen alot of lads jack on that one and in a slightly evil way that made me feel even better! Next up trainasium...with NO rest after the 10miler. I just thought this will be easy, which it was! All it is, is a command and react exercise. As long as you do the apparatus when they say 'GO', in a confident, aggressive manner without hesitation, the points are in the bag!

Yeah, I used to be scared of heights and I thoguht the trainasium was a piece of piss. Its the easiest test on p-coy. Its not even very high anymore.

Just treat it as your rest and you'll get through it.

I'd agree, I'm trying to get into the marines and even though the high obsticle course is a good twenty feet lower than the tranasium I had serious doubts in my head whether I could do it or not so I started doing a bit of climbing and abseiling from reasonable heights as well, when I got to PRMC I was bricking myself I was soaking wet through exhausted, freezing cold and ready to drop by the time we got to the high obs course, but I just took half a second and said to myself "You're not a kid you're an adult and you can't let fear control you" on the go command I shot up the ladder and across the course and came down the other side buzzing it was wicked, it gave me emense self confidence and last week I did an abseil for charity off the highest building in Nottingham, totally cured of my fear of heights, so basically have a word with ya self and do, if you're scared of height practice doing stuff safely at heights, beleive me you soon get used to it.

Post by Una »

Hi,
Does anybody know where the trainasium is now and also if there is anyway of civilians getting the chance to go over it?

Cheers Una

I drove past the trainasium tonight. Looks well dodgy!!! Its located in the boundaries of Helles Barracks, Catterick Garrison, next to the Church/Phsyio Injury Centre. Noticed it tonight when I was off for physio treatment on my foot. Doesnt look as high as I thought, but it is still pretty high. I dont think you are allowed to have access to it thou, unless your a recruit for the Paras, or are going through P-Company,

It doesn't look too scary on the picture, though it may on the day.

Ill be on it next month. Not sure about the two parallel bars part as yet, but have been told by someone whos just gone through the first few weeks of training that during the first week (screening) you get to go on it, for early confidence building. Or at least some of the high frame works of the trainasium anyway,

Not looking forward to it!!! Saying that, I cant wait to try it. Soon find out then wont we,

When it was in the Shot it used to be in the woods by the assault course but kids used to piss about on it at weekends so they put it in the Depot behind the block...Apparently it was easier in the woods as you were level with trees and felt as if you were not that high......when I did it at Depot it felt f**king high, but after I'd just completed the 10 miler I was not going to let a poxy climbing frame beat me... :fist:

Suppose I might be fortunate working for a roofer!

Should I be selected, I suppose it could be quite similar to walking along a roof ridge on a windy day with a 25lb ridge tile on your shoulder!
