Failed 1A course...

Post by Statistic »

The last two weeks have been the longest 2 weeks of my life! That was hard!
I did fail the course, mainly on map reading, but overall i really wasn't prepared for it, it's woken me up. But the first thing my PSI said to me when i marched out of the office after hearing the bad news was "don't wrap, come back in May and crack it and stay with you troop", he thinks i am able and said he had seen improvement over the 2 weeks, i;m not gonna let him down!
I'm gonna go back in May and pass it. Now i no what its all about i shouldn't have any problems.
Rabby the course had changed a bit mate since u did it... :o
We were subjected to all the bullshit, Ironing A4 size, room inspections everyday, dust checks, etc, etc.
Overall though, looking back it was fun in parts, good hard phys (dips in the tank) endurence course, etc. HELO DRILLS!!!! :D
The 4 day exercise at the end was an almighty threaders sesh, with the nicities of wet and dry on a cold and freezing night...

Well, all again in may! The course is changing again aparently, theres gonna be two field exercises and a range package. At least the weather will be better!!! (Hopefully)

NO ONE SAID IT WOULD BE EASY! 8)

I dont get it. Are you saying you failed the first stage of basic training, the foundation stage. I thought this stage was ok if you put the work and effort in or am i completely off of topic. Please will you enlighten me on this.
Listen in men give 100% or i will thrash you till your eyes bleed!

God is airborne because he failed his commando course!

RMR 1 Alpha course Rambo
Sticky, i understand the sound military reasons behind what we did, but at the time it's a big drip.
Looking on the plus side, i'm now the worlds most tidiest man...

Hi Jon,
Basicly mate, i underestimated the whole thing, I thought that by passing the criteria tests and getting by on the rest that I would pass...
This is not how it's run at all, and i should have known that before i went down there.
Dips in the tank, well, this usually happenes when an initial attempt to re-mount the regain rope goes horribly wrong and ones arms are 'blown out', said Nod is left hanging awaiting the inevitable plung into the ogin, Cold Cold Ogin at that!
They had the whole troop in there at one point for five minutes plus whilst the PTI bollocked us becuase somome was loafing on the bottom field, guys were almost crying with cramp and one or two looked like they were drowning :o . I managed to get away with this as i got a violent nose bleed halfway through the session and had just returned from sickbay when they were all getting the good news. (I still asked the PTI if i should climb in, but he said no  ).

The Training team were quick to emphasis that the dust thing was not B/S, dispite seeming so. The correct term is 'Attentian to detail' - a line you will hear many times at lympston when addressing admin, Along with 'a sence of Urgency'. The point is that you learn not to overlook anything. One day, when your in in the S**t and you've overlooked those spare batteries for your Radio and you havn't got comms becuase your only set have failed you then you no it's gonna be a bad day. That little bit of extra time spent squaring your kit away before you set out would have seen you packing some spares, instead of seeing yourself off and forgeting them.
Basicly a general tip for anyone joining the RMR and wondering about the 1 Alpha course - take the opertunity to learn the skills that are taught at the weekend AND REVISE THEM, they will not have the time to cover anything more than once or twice, when it gets taught thats it. It's expected to be learned. When you get to lympston there will be a couple of revision sessions to make sure everyones singing of the same hymsheet so to speak, but if you don't have a solid grounding you'll choke.

I still think its one of the most worthwhile things i've ever done!

I joined in September last year, if i had passed the 1 Aplha course then i'd be on a Commando Course at the end of September this year. HOPEFULLY if i can get on this 1 Alpha course in May and pass it then i will be aloud to stay with my troop and do the September RFCC. Once the RFCC is done then theres a couple of Phase 2 bits and peaces to crack which should take me through to early 2005 then that would be me fully qualified, HOPEFULLY...
I'm From Portsmouth Det which is a part of RMR London.
