the official line is that they dont go on anymore. we've never had to do one but have heard about other troops still doing it. our sect cpl told us that apparently the head of training, previously a naval officer, is now an RM officer and the rules are changing about what the training teams can and cant do to us...... eek.

Mud runs are still used down at CTC, The only problem is a request has to be approved by one of the camp senior officers and planned a week or two ahead.

This planning tend to make them a little disruptive to the normal training programme, and take a fair bit of organising.

Mud runs do still happen and they are not pleasant. Believe me I've done it recently. Sorry but I gotta say it.

theres no point in moaning about how hard something is-it aint going to change the fact that it is, it's easier to laugh about it-thats the way i think anyway.no offence meant.good luck

When I was at CTC mud runs were done as a phase 1 passout initiation thingy, but some troops did them more. I remember it being pure hell for, for my troop anyway. We were out there for at least 2 hours, doing all types of "games" all in sections, firemans carrys, crawling, sprinting, everything heh. After about 5 mins I was virtually running around blind cause the mud gets everywhere including yer eyes and there's no way to wipe it off because there's nowhere clean to wipe it. 8) Heh only one good thing came from it though, our troop co (captain) got an earful from from our PTI for beasting us so much, as we'd performed pretty well during the past week. I didn't mind beastings but that was pure hell and we also threw the captain into the mud after MUAHAHA.

All good fun though, and after phase 1 passout you used to get the troop to run the troop number into mud with PTI precision. Needless to say ours was there for weeks, another troop had to stomp it out. :D

well i spoke too soon, 2 weeks after my post, i was in fact running the mud. i thought it was actually quite amusing. we knew we'd messed up that week, and we were told we were about to get the hardest "classroom" period of our training, so after being marched up to puzzle palace and ultimately straight past it, on we marched to the static tank, causing us to believe we were going swimming. whilst formed up in front of it we had some motivational talk from our pti perpetuating the theory we were going swimming

pti: so have we messed up troop?
us: yes cpl
pti: so we need to sort it out dont we troop?
us: yes cpl
pti: so what are we going to do troop?
us: go in the tank cpl!
pti: are we going to get clean troop?
us: yes cpl!
pti: but how are we going to get clean when we're going in the mud?

[hearts sink, lumps form in throat]

followed by just over an hour playing in the mud

and that mud gets EVERYWHERE, the only bad thing was that we didn't get to write our troop no.
