SBS in Iraq... ooops! Its Iran!!!

Post by Batfink »

I've recently been down the pub chatting with a few mates from RM's who have just returned from Op Telic. They were telling me about some SBS chaps who whizzed up the Iran/Iraq border at the begining of the conflict in order to stop anybody out flanking us by crossing into Iran, then back into Iraq from behind us.

They reckon the SBS chaps ended up crossing quite far into Iran and were attacked, lost they're vehicles and ended up blowing them up before tabbing back to the estuary.

Can anybody lend any weight or shed any light on this or is it just an urban myth???

It happened! SB were bumped in their LUP, heavily outnumbered they bugged out and drove into a wadi "some" vehicles got bogged down so the decision was made to blow them and use the remaining transport to move out to the ERV where they picked up air support and made off.

Being a fan of the rumour net and believing that no good rumour should be let die...
I heard that it was Iraq, that it was duff yank intel (surprise) that led to them deploying where they did and that 2 lads ended up on run. The vehicles were destroyed in the bug out and the 2 lads were eventually picked up. So not too bad except the govt will no doubt take the funds out of their wages as we are all skint post Telic.
